Solved Vista home premium not recognizing cable modem

Wife was using her system with Vista 64 bit as a backup with a dial up connection. Eventually she had cable internet put on it but the system would not pick up the cable broadband modem connection. I had a system with XP hooked up to DSL broadband modem connection. I switched the systems and put my XP box on her cable broadband modem connection and it picked up the conection and works fine and I put her Vista box on my DSL broadband modem connection and it picked it up fine. But then when I switched the boxes back because the wife wanted her Vista system back it would not pick up the cable broadband modem connection again. Any suggestions as to why her Vista system will not pick up the cable broadband modem connection but will pick up the DSL broadband modem connection and / or how to remedy it short of taking the box in to repair?

Both systems have all the latest MS updates that are available for them installed and checked for malware and viruses and spyware. Thanks for help and suggestions.

If you are trying to use wireless you will need wireless drivers for your device. I have a couple of suggestions. First uninstall the device and reboot. Second flush your dns. I am also putting a link on troubleshooting internet connection issues.

I am not trying to use wireless. JUST WHAT IT SAYS IN ORIGINAL POST. It is just hooked up to the modems. No routers, wireless, or anything else. Just plain hooked up to the modems directly from the computer and from the modems to the cable or phone lines depending on which modem is being used on which system. The wife's Vista system just will not pick up the cable modem connection but will pick up the DSL modem connection and my XP system will pick up the cable modem connection and the DSL modem connection. Will not retype the whole original post again but just what it says.

There's no need to be hostile and it doesn't help anything. Also you never specified how you are connecting to the modems but only the modem types. Did you follow my suggestions?

Not trying to be hostile or rude. Just trying to answer your question and explain that it was simply what I posted in the original post. That the systems are hooked up to the broadband modems. That is it. Not a router, wireless connection, etc. Thanks for the reply anyways.

You post only indicated the modem types and not hot your pcs' connection to the modem. That probably is wireless or ethernet. Did you follow my suggestions?

Yes but when I hook the wife's system up to cable and do the "DNS Resolver Cache" nothing happens and I can not do the second because her box is not picking up the connection to connect to the pages. I am replying here using my XP system which picks up cable connection. Other have given me suggestions also that I can not do because the wife Vista system will not pick up the cable connection. I will most likely take it in to the repair shop because I am getting tired of keeping on switching boxes to the cable system to try stuff that does not work. :-(

You don't need an internet connection to uninstall the ethernet drivers or to have windows troubleshoot you connection. To uninstall the driver Locate computer on your desktop, right click, and select properties. Select device manager and you will see your device under network adapters. Right click on the device and select uninstall. After the drivers are uninstalled reboot your computer. Also from control panel select network and sharing center and click on diagnose and repair on the left hand panel.

OK Thanks for the suggestions and help but I keep trying stuff which people suggest (Which I am greatful for help) but in the end nothing seems to work and what with switching computers so much I think it is just time to take it into the repair shop and let them check it out. Thanks again.
