Vista formatting takes how long?

Hi,

Yes, sorry if that wasn't clear - I meant having both the original and the cloned hd simultaneously attached. This is where I expected Vista might change the Disk signature on one of them as it would not like two identical ones.

I had heard that many 3rd party bootmanagers have a problem because of hibernation - apparently disabling it helps, as you have discovered.

How can you now boot into the o/s on the F drive?

No problem all with both connected. In BIOS setup, it shows 2 distinct hard drives, but in boot priority, it just says "hard drive" For safety, I always have it set to

1-dvd device [and leave the tray empty except in a boot crisis
2-hard drive
3-connected devices which I assume means a bootable flash drive

Yes, hibernation appears to be a problem. In my xp days, I had endless problems with hib, and an article in PC Mag some time back noted that this hib feature was a giant problem with MS operating systems. The mag said MS has never got it right, and if it works for you, congrats, but trying to fix it is a root canal. There are seemingly endless things that can go wrong, and try to find the culprit.

I am now in the process of creating more CYA bootable DVD's just in case, then will try the dual boot again.

I will really miss hiberation!

Vista seems far more stable than XP in that regard [a first!] because my machine is on about 14 hours a day, with frequent breaks of a few hours. Hiberation is wonderful, but only if it works!

Enabled the BM in PM9 and it works perfectly. I can boot to either hard drive with no problem.

But I am not going to risk another hiberation, which really burns me! I use it all the time.

Let us know if you decide to work on that. Glad it is fixed.
