Solved vista dvd will not install

thats the way it is set to boot from cd/rom 1st then from hdd and i get the error as in the pic above
Are you sure, Because the way it reads to me is the boot order is in order as listed for the BIOS to find an Operating System, but only the CDROM drive prefixed with the (1.) is actually a bootable device, and it is at the bottom of the list.
It will automatically search the HDD first for an O/S and not look for bootable files on the CDROM Drive. This is a common setup for Systems with recovery partitions. It will never attempt to look for bootable files/programs off the CD drive at restart, and will constantly boot into Windows on the HDD and never boot off the CD Drive; hence, no "hit any key to boot from disk" message at restart.

"The list specifies the order that the BIOS searches devices when trying to find an Operating System. Only devices preceded by a number are BOOTABLE"

USB Floppy (not present)
SATA HDD
IDE HD (not present)
1.CDROM
USB Device

Your only present "bootable" device needs to be first on the list. Right now, only using a USB floppy will boot before the O/S on the SATA HDD.

When you changed the boot order did you save the settings? Go into BIOS and take another look to see if it reset to HDD as first boot
Also, Even with a disk in the drive it will still boot the HDD unless you "hit any key" at the prompt to boot from disk.

I would have set the USB device (all of them- including Floppy) to boot before the HDD. The HDD should be your very last boot device.

Well your boot order seems to be for the most part correct, so that leaves us with an optical drive or disk issue-

Check the drive and disk one may be damaged/defective or in need of hardware/driver re-install.

You can also try resetting your Optical drive:
http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/210288-dvdrw-drive-not-reading-after-upgrade.html

Reset Optical
Uninstall from Device Manager
turn off Computer
Remove the Drive
Clean/Check cables/connections
Re-attach Drive, and restart (Windows will automatically reinstall drivers)

A last resort, copy your Vista DVD to Thumbdrive, and boot it:

When setting the boot order are you pressing F10 to save changes and exit ? ?
Does this bootable cd/dvd work on another machine ? ?

If yes to both of the above you may have a weak/failing CMOS battery that is not saving your changes...

Another thing to try assuming your boot order and optical drive are fine:
put any disk in drive and restart, if you then get the "hit any key to boot from disk" then it is almost certain your Vista O/S is scratched/damaged. If that is the case, then you just need to download a Vista ISO, and burn it to a new DVD.

Well its gotta be your Optical Drive or BIOS/CMOS-
Download, and try reflashing your BIOS back to default, then re-check your boot priority.
Prior to this (which may be the real problem), have you tried something simple like putting a cd in your CDROM drive to see if it give the " hit any key to boot..."?

If yes to both of the above you may have a weak/failing CMOS battery that is not saving your changes...
The CMOS battery may be failing, and is losing the BIOS setting for boot priority:
Explanation: The CMOS battery is working sometimes, but is occasionally failing, causing loss of BIOS settings or error messages.
Diagnosis: This situation can be very annoying, and in some PCs can last for a very long time. It usually means that the CMOS battery voltage is getting low and that it needs to be replaced, especially if the problem is occurring with increasing frequency. It can also result from a bad connection to the motherboard.

Try clearing the CMOS on your system. This can be done in a variety of ways; jumpers usually on desktops, (in my case by putting it back in upside down for a few minutes). Check the specs on your system for "Clearing the CMOS", then check your BIOS boot order again. If there is an option to "save to CMOS" be sure to do that.

Should not affect the BIOS, but be sure to check the BIOS boot order, and look for "save to CMOS" setting if it exists.
