what recording speed vista DVD-RW driver when burning new disk is best or recom 48, 40, 24, or 16 or is this a defalt setting ???

The default setting is usually "Maximum"!
The maximum speeds for me are 126x CD (18900KB/sec) & 16x DVD (22160KB/sec).
The speed is usually capped by the recording medium (CD or DVD), OK?

In general, most DVD's are rated for burning speeds of 1x-4x. Some burners say they can burn DVD's at higher rates but they don't tell you that you need a specific brand of DVD and probably a specific type.
