Unfortunately it has completely dissapeared from the device manager so couldn't say exactly what it was. No i don:t hanve any samsung cameras connected currently.

Figured out what the Profolic USB -Serial Com was. It is the USB energy Monitor provided to me by EON to monitor Electricity usage in the house
Unplugged it and the yellow triangle and the device dissappeared

right after a sleepless night tinkering
McAfee is removed,
SD cards Pulled Out
plus various other tinkering with things that look like they'd affect it
I seem to be able to get in and play around in 'My Computer' and the shut down and start up times appear to be back to around a minute or 2 YAY!!!
No Virus's or Malware present
Memory is running fine
Still unable to test Hard drive - Seatools installed finally however when i ran it it picks up my Seagate External storage Drive plus my many card readers and USB drives, BUT no listing of my Internal Hard Drive to run tests on
So all in all the PC seems to be as stable as it was 2 weeks ago
I Still have to test to see if it runs the Vista Installer DVD purely becuase of all the trouble i still want to flatten the machine and start fresh
(I'm still not holding any hopes for it running as everything that has been tinkered with to me only affects the windows environment)
After no sleep i unfortunately have to go to work so if you have any suggestions for what i can try to get the Vista Installer to work for when i return home i'd appriciate it

It sounds like everything is back to normal.
Don't know anything about SeaTools. I assume everything else sees your C: drive.
Did you reinstall McAfee? Just wondered because you said there are no viruses or malware.
You'll just have to try the DVD. I assume you're logged in as Administrator and not a separate user when you shut down to try it.

i installed the microsoft security essentialsand ran scans with that. i will run chkdsk when i get time over the next 24 hours.

Yeah, when you first posted, my thoughts were the hard drive, and since you can not run the Diagnostic one suggested, I would be curious as to how the microsoft test comes out.

When you made the SeaTools diagnostic dvd, did you set the Bios to boot from cd/dvd first ?

there is no option to create a boot disk with sea tools? it appears to be a windows based program with scan facilities, and when it loads it scans for SCSI, USB IDE etc Drives but doesn't scan for SATA drives

Rich has another hard drive test, my thinking is this one would give you results , just make the bootable disk and run the tests, short and long.
