Okay, today, more sweets to bag up!! After today I don't think I'll want to see another sweet again lol.
I've also been thinking about turning my Netbook into a tablet, anyone remember when I first had the idea? After I've done the sweets I'm gunna have a look into a touchscreen and how much it'll cost me.

Also! The problem on the cica website is fixed! At the moment the original is still online, but theres a new version being private hosted at media555, which my dads mate owns, we don't know what he's done, but the links work in Chrome now!

Another also! Theres a YouTube account myself and a couple of the Andro guys set up for Minecraft, at the moment theres a few videos of us exploding and blowing up stuff, account name is AndromadaCrewMC , I'm sure there'll be loads more at a later date!

I can not send you photos of the house at the moment as I have tennents living there. By redesign I mean New bathroom, Kitchen and everything stripped out and replaced. Just got all the doors and windows done. Cost a fortune.

Today I have finished my personal statement and spellcheck flagged up something that I'm not sure on:

...same ward as myself

(I don't want to post the whole sentence because it'll flag the anti plagiarism checks that they have in place!)

It wants to correct it to me. It looks nicer with myself there but I don't want it to be wrong. Is anyone here good enough at English to tell me?

Hello Tom!

I know that I am really late here, but grammatically, me is correct, and myself is incorrect.

Technically speaking, myself has three different forms: reflexive, emphatic, and informal, whereas me is the object pronoun.

Myself:

As a general rule, conjoin with the subject pronoun I, and do not use in place of the object pronoun me.

eg:

Reflexive myself: I feel like myself again.
Emphatic myself: I myself tried base jumping, something I will not repeat!
Informal myself: This is the only form you might try to fit your use of myself into, but it is still incorrect.

My wife and I... --> My wife and myself...
My friend and I... --> My friend and myself...

I personally do not like this, but it is still a recognised literary technique (literary techniques do not have to be grammatically correct; the split infinitive and compound split infinitive are arguably not grammatically correct, but they are still literary techniques)

Remember the general rule: "conjoin with the subject pronoun I, and do not use in place of the object pronoun me."

In your sentence,

"...same ward as myself..."

you are not using the reflexive or emphatic forms of myself, therefore this only leaves the informal form, you are replacing a me and not an I, and therefore it is incorrect to use myself.

Incorrect: "...same ward as myself..."
Correct: "...same ward as me..."

However, your point about the "looks" is valid. You can still leave it, not as a grammatical construction, but as a literary technique. However, because most people would see it as a mistake rather than a deliberate literary technique, I would be temped to use me next time.

EDIT: Hmmm, thinking some more, maybe it could be read emphatically (i.e. "...same ward as me myself...) Without the "me" it is not very obviously emphatic...My final decision is that although it isn't wrong to call this abbreviated emphatic, just as it isn't incorrect to call it a literary technique, on a piece of paper where I couldn't argue this point with the interviewer, I would still read this as incorrect before I read it as either a literary technique or shortened emphatic (and you didn't intend for it to be read emphatically, either, I don't think).

Also, technically, this isn't quite correct either! Really, the emphatic form of myself should not be "(the cast was managed) entirely by myself" (incorrect) but should actually be "entirely by me personally", or slightly weaker, "entirely by me myself".

P.S. I love grammar! Did I ever tell you!? I could give you a lecture on the objective you versus the possessive your before a gerund, if you like!

I really am a Science and Maths person, however, just this year I have developed a passion for grammar (but not English) due to Grammar obsessed English and Latin teachers. I really am a Science and Maths person, however, just this year I have developed a passion for grammar (but not English) due to Grammar obsessed English and Latin teachers. Oh right, I understand now. I've never really got into grammar, partly due to the fact that it wasn't part of the syllabus - well of course it was, just not to the sort of level you're dealing with. Its a great skill to have so I'll try and nail the basics over summer, as well as starting this malware removal degree and learning C#

i'm not sure what the issue is, you can enter your password when it prompts the UAC and the game boots up, the OP sounds like he wants a way to play the game but doesn't want to enter the password everytime, is this correct?

Not quite, his children have a standard user account and he wants them to be able to play a game that requires admin credentials without him entering the password every time

short of upgrading to 7, there's not many options for him, a solution might be to install the game under the users account but he might need to upgrade to admin temporarily and then downgrade it and see if it works that way
