according to that link I'm stuck doing a clean install from cd because my cd is sans service pack and i currently have sp2 installed. I will try to extract tdx files manually from the cd and reinstalling sp2. Other than that I think I will repost and see if anyone else has anything to add. Thanks for your efforts.

do you have a vista machine? if so can you search your registry and find all instances of tdx.dll and export them to a .reg file for me? I extracted tdx.dll from the vista cd and the dhcp service started working again. werid thing is that its no longer listed as a dependancy service for dhcp like it was when i started having these issues. I can get a dhcp address and connect to the web but the network shares are still not visible. I figure if I can re-enter the reg lines pertaining to tdx.sys that should do the trick but I dont have any other vista system in the house.
