It's no powerhouse but it usualy get's the job done in most gaming environments (Well, NwN2 and ArmA are beasts, but,,, I digress)
Anyhow, prior to SP1, I was running with the 169.25 forceware drivers from the day they released and had no real issues, system ran smooth.
Installing SP1 was a pretty simple process for me as soon as I got the prerequesit updates in place and after which, the system performance was notably more fluid
initially...
Not long after I tried playing ArmA (Armed Assault) for a while. At first I was amazed and impressed by the great steps in performance, seemed as if I was watching a movie as opposed to the usual flip-book animation feel I'd grown accustom to and all was right with the world
untill the dreaded "display driver had stopped responding but recovered" jumped up and bit my head off.
So Google led me to a bunch of forums searching for an answer to the nvlddmkm.sys issue, found the DirectX beta update, installed, reinstalled my vid & sound drivers and was once more impressed by the degree of improvment, but this was short lived as the nvlddmkm monster soon returned. (Still had an old nvlddmkm file thanks to the "file suppository", then I went thru and decided to claim all nv_ folders as my own, promptly deleting them thereafter. Still not sure how wise an idea that was
)
Then I tried visiting Windows update
but was unable to check for updates. Luckily I recalled that one of the pre-SP1 updates was an update for redirecting Windows update,
figuring it was Windows Firewall blocking me, I shut it off, and sucessfully found there were only optional updates for Windows Defender at the time
So I've done everything I can think of short of buying an ATI card to fix this nvlddmkm problem with no luck.
But on the bright-ish side, it all run's smoother and faster untill the inevitable bsod or display driver has stopped responding pops up and sends me in whats becoming a vicious cycle of ripping out the old drivers and trying other variants. (Next on the list is a 3rd-party, modded forceware driver from NGOHQ.com as I've tried everything from 162.22 to the 174.85 beta drivers from guru3d.com with no luck
)
P.S. : Clock speeds on CPU / GPU are all out-of-the-box stock. Temps are "reasonable" (Below 60 C.)
Overall, as long as theres some form of hotfix from MS or Nvidia soon, I'm pleased for the increased performance despite this annoying bug.
