No sorry about that. Everyone but me and you has a lappy, I just assumed. Ill see if I can come up with something else. Even if overheating is not the cause of this problem, we do not want another one.
yeah lol I am not a fan of laptops :S sorry I should of mentioned that before hand. I have seen talks about that it is ok to run the gts 250 at around 70C
I am a bit relcutant to say that it is ok to run at about 70C or 170F, just a bit too high for my blood. I do not think that you really want to push the extreme and then hope for the best. But with the cooler it is better than nothing.
Its best to place the tower above ground level, the desk would be ideal.
Well as of right now I have had no crashes and have been playing L4D2 and SC2 for about 5 hours now. I think doing the directX update from that post might of been what has been fixed the crashes since I did not do that after reformatting my HDD. If I set the gpu fan to 100% the temp will stay around 50-60C. If I get another crash I will go through that link again and see if I may have missed something. If anything I will buy a new case and new video card. Are there any suggestions on a case that has good air flow? I honestly do not want to use liquid cooling since I tend to get nervous with just a pop sitting next to my computer lol. If it has to be a last resort I guess I will try it out.
ok so I am pretty sure it was a heating issue. I played L4D2 without increasing the fan speed and it crashed after a while. so I am wondering since I have used it for a year do you think the thermal paste on the card is bad? Should I get another video card? I am trying to figure out what I can do to prevent the overheating since it just started happening.
There are so many causes of over heating, I cannot tell you what you should do or what the cause is.
If it were my computer, I would try my best to prevent it. I would use a list such as this and try with the cheapest method and work may way up. Sorry if I cannot say that it is the fan, or paste or video card etc. Even if you bring it into shop, they will guess and charge for time spent
alright well after a couple of weeks my computer ended up crashing again. However the system was at 57C when it crashed when I was playing the game. So should I take it that overheating is out of the question? Should I try getting new RAM for the system?
