Up and running - thanks for steering me in the right direction.
I'd uninstalled Nvidia via device manager / display adaptors, clicking on Nvidia & using uninstal option. Thought it had removed it, as Nvidia no longer mentioned there after next reboot.
Standard VGA adaptor seemed to appear straight after new card inserted.
However, just checked on 'properties' for standard VGA adaptor (general) and following message showed;
'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory (code 38)'.
Windows then asked to check for solution. A few minutes later updates were ready to download. After restart, windows loaded ATI drivers.
Just ran a very quick test of 'Crysis' & graphics operational.
