the tool you made me ran said that there is no update, or it was this update, cannot be installed on my pc...so i think the sp2 is not needed on my notebook...if so how can i remove him and all the updates from 06/09/09 from my pc? the "add/remove" from control panel doesn't work...help meee, dziękuję (my gf is from poland)! cześć

I saw this kind of version this error and I probably know what you mean. This error cause strange incorrect installed SP2  and it is very hard to fix.

1.Make sure you have correct time both in the system and in BIOS
2.Check your CMOS battery to ensure it doesn't require replacement
3.Make sure you have the newest BIOS version -if not update it.
4.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

slmgr -rearm

and wait a while untill appear message with succesfuly rearming then restart computer
5.After restarting uninstall SP2 and other updates you suspect problems (this time should it worked) but remeber SP1 you must leave.

Relate to your CBS.log

there are many this kind of errors

2009-09-08 17:56:00, Error DpxException hr=0x80070002 code=0x020109
2009-09-08 17:56:00, Error Failed to find the CixTarget for Container package_65_for_kb970653~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.0.cat

which adreess to KB970653.Hotfix KB970653 is responsible for time zone so only prove what people say about this error it relate to any trouble with time. From your log difficult to say this error adressed to this hotfix as part of SP2 or to already installed this hotfix. If you have installed hotfix KB970653 obligatory uninstall it independly how long you have it.After uninstalling hotfixes again restart computer.
6.Again try install SP2 standalone

If again SP2 will be incorrect installed :(,again rearm system +restart and uninstall SP2.

and for you only leave :(

but anyway...how can i control my cmos battery if it is a laptop? and above all...if my laptop went to hp tech support...i mean they replaced the mobo...so i think battery is ok :D concerning the bios updating...i have a freakin fear something will go wrong, also because i never updated bios!!!

well...i'll let you know! thanks again

My Computer

what can i do, flavius? search for mom-ms help?
Saying true I don't know :(.You may also check you have any correct checkpoint in System Restore and restore it if you can of course however as far I remember this terrible error also cause removing all checkpoints in system restore too :( ,since SP2 appeared many people have this terrible issue and seems nobody know how to fix, neverless check it.If I have right and you don't have any checkpoint you must choose:

-MS Support
-Reinstall OS

Don't ask me what better - probably MS support is not free now for this issue.
Your decision...

My Computer

thanks, i'll go with mom support...if it's free :D because as you said this lovely sp2 and error has removed aaall my checkpoints, unless there is another way to find them and restore vista! if i decide to format i'll wait untill i've done the exam i'm preparing, obviously...my wish is to find the pre-06-september restore point...well thanks again, i'll let you know

My Computer

Thank you veldthui (post #14) - your fix worked! - the fifth attempt to install SP2 on the Dell Inspiron 530S that I'm working on.

Your fix conspicuously absent from the M$ advice on this topic a year after your post!

My Computer

This thread is really old and since this issue, microsoft has released a more stable version of Vista SP2 that does not give me the counterfeit error when completing the installation.

STILL if you have problems with your SP2 installation, im not sure if Microsoft is still offering free support for Vista SP2 service requests, but you can still try MS support and see if they do. But for me it was a software liscensing service that corrupted on my first install.
