Well, you will need to post your system specs in the lower left hand corner. Also, please be very specific on the memory you purchased, including the number of sticks you installed. I'll need to know the make and model of your pc - or the motherboard if you built it.

After that ... did you install the new memory with the current memory?

DONT WORRY.

it isnt broken. You need to boot into bios. different computer do it differently (some computers use F2)

Is the first gig and the second gig exactly the same?

What kind of computer, what model, desktop or laptop?

How many ram slots do you have?

What version of vista?

Hi,

Let's see-

Compaq SR2150NX
Vista Home Basic 32-bit
and yes they are exactly the same. I bought 2 Kingston 1 GB Sticks. I thought this version was compatible. I took out the current memory (2x 512 MB) and installed these two. When I boot up nothing happens. Only lights and fan- the monitor shows no signal. There were two slots so none left. The motherboard can support up to 2 GB. Thanks for all the help and I hope you can continue to help me.

Do not have to install in pairs

So...

As Ken said, first enter your bios, then save and continue.

If this does not work, then please give me the exact information on the Kingston.

You need to go into Bios and find the memory section. there is (not on all) a box that says max memory and right now its set lower. If it is there change it to 2 gigs.

Let us know the results

BTW ECC is a type of memory you can read about it here Dynamic random access memory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In my bios, it just shows the total memory and what each slot has in it. Is the RAM compatible with my motherboard? I think it is?

Install in pairs means that since your ram is "double data rate" you should install 2 at a time. Doesn't apply to you because you only have 2 slots.

Oh, ok thanks,

Do you know where I can buy one at Best Buy? I can't find one that is compatible, but then again, I'm not exactly sure which one to get.

One what?

RAM! I need 2 1 GB sticks that work with my system. I'm not sure what to get now, because what I got did not work. It is somewhere in a previous post. THANKS!

You can get ram at best buy, staples, newegg (mail order) and tons of other places. what you need to do is find out what kind. Its in the owners manual, and if you dont have that you can download an app called CPU-Z (free) to tell you.

Hope this helps
