Solved Set associations control panel

hi, when i try to play an avi file that i recieved in a e-mail, a pop up box tells me, this file does not have a program asssociated with it for performing this action, create an association in the associations control panel. can anybody tell me where the associstions control panel is and how i go about it,i have windows vista 32-bit,thank you

Hello Patch,

Are you able to play the AVI file if you save it to your desktop first? Sometimes certain files just cannot be opened directly from within an email.

If not, then the avi download at the link below will restore the default AVI associations in the registry for it.

Also you can do stuff like open one of the Media Player Classic or other players and select individual formats. I have Media Player Classic Home Cinema 64 bit associated with .avi but if I want to play an .avi with VLC Media Player, I have VLC in the SendTo menu.
