How to Customize the Send To Context Menu in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8​

   Information

This tutorial will show you how to add or delete shortcuts from the "Send To" context menu in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

The items for the Send To context menu are located in the hidden system folder below.

C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

   Tip

To remove or show drive letters in the Send To context menu, see: How to Remove or Show Drive Letters in the Vista and Windows 7 Send To Context Menu . Drives in the Send To menu can cause it to open slowly or hang for a bit if the hard drives have to spin up first before accessing them.

EXAMPLE: Send To Context Menu with added Notepad

Here's How:

1. Do step 2 or 3 below for how you would like to open the SendTo folder.

2. Open a Windows Explorer window, navigate to the hidden system folder below, and go to step 4 below.

C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo​

3. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type shell:sendto, press Enter, and go to step 4 below.

4. Add or Delete any drive, folder, or application shortcut you like that uses the Open With option for the Send To window below.

NOTE: For example: Notepad, Paint, Photo Gallery, dvd drive, any folder, etc. For a drive, right click on the drive in Computer and click Create Shortcut for it to placed on the desktop, then move the shortcut to here.

I just tried clicking on briefcase and this is what I got? I canceled out I did not know what else to do.

I would recommend doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you had these issues to see if it may be able to undo and fix them for you.

I tried System Restore and the only date showing is the day I messed everything up. I can not go back any more than 8-1, this fixed my icons and Documents folder and Briefcase are back but the send t problem is still there? I guess I am jut gone to have t live with it? Or is there anything else I could do?

You could create a new administrator account, then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.

I am really over my head. I don't know how to do what you are suggesting and am afraid I will loose more. Will I still be the administrator? Would I still have all my self created folders, pictures and files?

It's basically just creating a new administrator account, then copying over all of your old account's files into the new one.

I would recommend to not delete the old account until you've made sure that you have copied over everything that you wanted and did not want to lose.

No I think he just means to go to user accounts and make another account. Give it administrator privileges. Then go to folder options and show hidden files. Then copy your folders to the new account include the app data, and other hidden files that you exposed.

Could you please advise me if it is possible to have a nested "Send to" set of shortcuts.

i.e
Documents>pictures
Documents>scans

This request is to reduce the number of shortcuts in the "Send to" listing.
