there is no difference, OEM is the exact same version as the retail version, its basically cheaper because you don't pay for a fancy box, its meant for PC builders, cheaper so they can buy in bulk and install on any new machines they build..

Theres nothing really good about ultimate really, just dreamscene and you can get that installed on premium versions of vista, i'd go with home premium :)

there is no difference, OEM is the exact same version as the retail version, its basically cheaper because you don't pay for a fancy box, its meant for PC builders, cheaper so they can buy in bulk and install on any new machines they build..
Don't forget that an OEM version can only be installed on one computer and is non-transferable to another. It is locked to the motherboard when it is installed. Basically, you can change anything in the computer except the mobo. If you do change the mobo, you're supposed to buy a new copy of Windows.

It took a whole lot of begging MS to be able to move my OEM XP version to my new machine before I bought Vista.

AFAIK, the retail versions are fully transferable between machines. Of course, you can only have one registered version at a time.

Hmmm. Maybe it's different in Canada. When I moved my XP - with a whole lot of grief, btw - the woman at MS said it was a good thing it wasn't vista, cuz they don't let you move that one. That was February. Maybe it's changed now.

Good to know. Thanks.
