"Program Files" Folder Inaccessible, Taking ownership does nothing

Are you giving up already?

Does the installer program use Microsoft Installer, i.e. does it have a .msi extension?

If so, did you run through all the steps in Method One of http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/87249-unable-install-latest-version-program-vista.html?

I went to the Asustek Support website and couldn't find any reference to Direct Console. Exactly what is it and what does it do?

No I'm not giving up, just saying.

The installer is a .exe file. The Direct Console is a program that lets you modify what shows up on the LED display above the keyboard and it also lets you overclock the CPU through a simple click. Without the program all that shows up on my LED is the ASUS logo.

I will be running through those steps shortly

open the elevated command prompt and run:

net user administrator /active:yes

Then a new account will popup in the user account list, do what you need to do in that account and then after you are done:

net user administrator /active:no


OR, use a linux live CD, then manipulate, do anything with that file from the linux live cd.

Also try to do what you need to do inside safemode with that hidden user account.

Only thing left in my quiver is a reinstall of the OS. Pretty drastic.

You might want to try _Tech Support Forum. They've got a number of Microsoft techies there who know their stuff. If you do, make sure you post a list of everything you've already tried so they know immediately what didn't work.
