Please help

I have been burning my avi files to dvd on my laptop. I have been using windows dvd maker, it goes through the whole encoding process and seems like it is burning but when it gets to the end it flashes up that there was a problem burning dvd, I also have this problem when I go to burn a CD through windows media player everything was fine till the start of the week, I can burn data files onto DVDs for work so I dont think it is a issue with the burner as it is reading as well. Can anybody please help me with this it is driving me mad?

We need info on your computer. make, model, what kind of dvd player, what the error says.

did it work and then suddenly stop?

lets try this to see if your dvd driver is working.

go to start>search box>type device manager. In device mgr look for the dvd/cd section. expand the tab and look for the dvd drives name. Is it there, and does it have a yellow triangle on it?

If its not there are there any "unknown" devices with yellow triangles?

Sorry forgot to say the error message when I am burning a DVD just says there has been a error while burning no code or anything. When I am trying to do a CD it burns 2 or 3 songs then it says a error occured.

the easiest thing is to download the driver for the dvd and install it. You can go here Sony eSupport - Electronics - Select Your Model to look for your model and OS (OS means operating system in your case probably vista)

Are you 32 bit or 64?

OK if you looked at them you have their link/address do you remember what it was?

are you 32bit or 64?

EDIT Nevermind I found it. its here http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/preinstalled/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-NR21J_S

All you have to do is click on the originally installed tab and pick the driver for your system (either 32bit or 64) download it and install it.

Everyone has them<g> If you type system information in search it will tell you. See picture. if it says x86 thats 32 bit if not its 64bit. so what does it say?

I cant find the matshi****a driver anywhere. I went to sony us, sony UK, matshu****a, and others.

I got an idea . if you can go into device manager by typing device manager in search. Go to the dvd tab and right click it. go to properties. in properties click un-install. it will un-install the driver. reboot and let vista find a driver for you.

Its the only thing I can think of right now.

I tried that the other day and it failed. I just tried burning a cd again and it got 3 songs into it then it failed and said a error occured

Sorry this is taking so long but its hard to got my finger on what we can do.

edit: ok we have beat this driver thing to death. you say you can burn data but not music. what app are you using to burn the music, and what app to burn the data? both cd,s and dvd's work as long as it isnt music, right?
