Solved Outlook 2007 Recovery

Unfortunately, I am having to rebuild my computer (long story). On the old system I have a backup image using Acronis but when I restore using the backup image and boot I get a BSOD. I was able to restore the image to an external drive and I can connect to my laptop via USB/eSATA and see everything on the drive. The new system is up and running, and I can access what used to be my old 'C' drive. Here's the situation that I need help with: I was (and will be) using Office Outlook 2007 as my email client. I've been able to recover most of my outlook stuff, what I have not been able to recover is

1. My email accounts - I had about 10 and with a bit of pain I can recover them.
2. My rules - I had about 200 and only with a LOT of pain and time will I be able to recovery them.

Any advice (instructions at the dummy level would be welcome) as to how I can recover my email accounts and rules (especially my rules) would be greatly appreciated.

Where are the email accounts and rules stored in Outlook?

Outlook 2007 File Locations

From the old image I did copy all of the files from

• [FONT=&quot] [/FONT]C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
• [FONT=&quot] [/FONT]C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

On the new build I placed the files in the same location. When I start Outlook I see everything except for my email account and rules. When viewing my emails if I click on the organize icon in the toolbar the "ways to organize inbox" pops up, in the upper right corner of this window I see "New Folder..." but I don't see "Rules and Alerts" as I do on my wife's systems.

Any idea as to why I don't see the "Rules and Alerts" button? Possibly this has something to do with my missing rules.

In other efforts to find a solution I found a statement "Since Outlook XP the rules are stored as part of the data". If this is the case why don't I see my rules after copying over all of the files in the two outlook folders above?

OK I just discovered the issue - (DAMN, DAMN, DAMN) - you cannot see the rules and alerts until you create an email account. (DAMN).

I just created an email account for one of my accounts and like magic it is now working. Boy was this an expensive lesson! It took me almost two weeks and numerous LONG days. DAMN!!!!!!
