Office file opening problem

I have a problem with office on 2 of my Pc's (Vista x64 & MCE2005) If I double click on any office file e.g. Spreadsheet.xlsx document.docx Nothing happens. Instead I must open them from the file (globe) open menu in program.

Ideas anybody?

Which version of office? And have you tried repair or office diagnostics? My friend had repaired the same problem by doing a reinstall but that was at the recomendation of someone else.

It's office 2007, I have tried a repair but that didn't work.

Where do I find office diagnostics?

You can find Office Diagnostics in the help menu in outlook.

Also in older versions of office you can do this:

Go to Tools menu/Options/General tab Clear the 'Ignore Other Applications' box. But I see no option in 2007

Also check your error logs by;

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

This may point you in the right direction.
