Solved not a valid win32 Application

Hi bergmoser,

If this just started happening, try a system restore back to a point before it happened- if possible - you may also try it from Safe Mode.

Good morning SIW2,thanks for your reply.The very first thing I attemted to do was to restore,however restore will not open,not even in safe mode. None of the applications or programs will open also. Keep getting that message about they being an invalid win32 application. All App. and program icons have an IE icon superimposed on them on the desktop. Am able to open mail(Outlook Express) and IE,also Google.
This issue happened after I tried to change the application "Type " of an attachment I received from Verizon concerning setting up a sub account. The attachment would not open as it was a "LINK" so I tried to have it open with IE, however it still did not open.After that my trouble begain.

Hello SIW2 and thanks again. Yes that "Default Programs" is where I got into this trouble.At the time I was trying to associate that.Link file with IE so it would open using IE. Thats when everything became locked up and not open at all. So earlier today I was able to get into "Restore" in a round about way and restored the PC to a couple days earlier,lo and behold the computer came back to life and all is normal now.

I did what I thought was correct in deleteing my posting, however I don't thiink it got deleted,will try again so people will not reply anymore.

Glad system restore worked for you.:D

It may help others to know how you got into system restore if you couldn't do it in Safe Mode.

Hi SIW2,okay here is how I was able to get into System Restore.First of all my OS is Vista-Home-Basic.
1. Remove all devices from the ocomputer except keyboard,mouse and monitor.
2. Click windows start button.
3. Click all programs.
4. Click Help & Tools.
5. Click Recovery Manager,you are asked if you want to perform a Microsoft System Restore.
6. Click Yes and select a date when the PC was working fine, then follow the onscreen instructions.
You do not lose any data or programs. Works like a charm!
