This Software is considered unfinished and new Features and Functionality will change before a Final Release later this year.

Installing this Beta will uninstall some Symantec and/or other third-party programs already installed on your machine. ensure that you have your prior product media (i.e., disks) so that you can re-install your products after the Beta version expires.

Its working absolutely great this version is 1000times better than any previous version I have used or any other AV I have used to date.

Why is that a problem?

Symantec seems to think they can do a better job than Microsoft at protecting the key areas of Vista it has access too. What happened, in the United States, was that Symantec and McAfee started whining about not having access to those key areas, and were on the verge of whining to the U.S. DOJ, and if that would have happened, Microsoft would have been, for lack of better terminology hung out to dry, possibly. Microsoft eventually gave in to the whiner's at Symantec and McAfee and allowed those programs access to those key areas starting with Service Pack 1. Ever since this happened, I have no faith in Symantec or it's Norton Products.

This is not good, as the way Microsoft had things set up with Vista, was that absolutely no antivirus or internet security program would not have access to those key areas of Vista, and those two companies would have to completely rewrite there programs to make them Vista compatible, and the companies mentioned decided one day, no way were they going to do that, so they started whining and got their way about getting access to key areas of Vista, as a result with Service Pack 1, anyone running at Symantec of McAfee product, probably isn't as secure as both those companies would have the sheeple believe.

I concur with Wild on this one - I was incensed beyond belief when I saw what Symantec and McAfee pulled. If I could run Vista stable without SP1 I probably would for this very reason....

This is why my Vista 64 SP1 rig is as stable as I've gotten, I will not run a Norton or McAffee product on my system.

I had problems with speed with Norton and Mcafee. running vista x64 home premium.
A fellow in CA. put me on to using Avast. this is free for home users. the co. has very
good reports in pc mag. and others on reviews. they have been in business since 1988.
might want to check it out.

Microsoft and Symantec are both delusional on how to protect our computers. Why not fix the OS and get rid of all the extra crap.

I personally dislike Norton or any other brand. According to some sources, it has a below average detection rate. There are freeware programs (Surprisingly not AVG) that can do a lot better. In fact, some people claim free protection is better then the popular brand names such as Norton and McAffee.

I Just read some nice news articles about how US Government built spyware/trojens do not get detected by antivirus company's, Mcaffe and a few others even contacted them to make sure there AV software wouldn't detect any Goverment variations...:eek:

reported that at least some anti-virus companies, including Network Associates (maker of McAfee anti-virus products), had contacted the FBI following the press reports about Magic Lantern to ensure their anti-virus software would not detect the program

It was used as recently as last year to arrest a 15yo kid who was threatening to bomb his school, They used myspace messaging to exploit his browser and install the program

Just another reason to avoid the use of popular AV software

Just read the article. Great! So if someone hacks into the FBI and steals the program, everybody with Norton or McAfee will be vulnerable to the attack.

One concern is that when Norton AntiVirus ignores the Magic Lantern program it will have no way to confirm it is being deployed in accordance with law, and that this may allow illegal monitoring by both the police and by malicious hackers and private citizens, precisely the activity Norton products are designed to prevent.

What a laugh; paying for something that doesn't do what you paid for !!!
I can understand 'helping' law enforcement but there is a fine line there.

And consider if someone were to replicate this program. There are a lot of people with Norton and McAfee and I would image the damage that person could do would be pretty substantial!
