No SP1 in Windows Update

It's been over a week since the release of the service pack and still it doesn't show up in my Windows Update.

I know it was being released "in waves", but shouldn't the US have been first since MS is an American company?

I have installed the required updates already. As far as I know, I don't have any of the problems listed on MS support site.

Does MS have a tool I could perhaps download to tell me if any of my drivers need to be updated? I remember there was a tool like this when WinXP came out.

Addendum: Upon doing some investigation, I did find that I may have one of the effected files.

Display drivers

Intel Display
• For x86-based computers: Igdkmd32.sys – versions between and including driver 7.14.10.1322 and 7.14.10.1403

I have this file in my DriverStore\FileRepository folder and its version is 7.14.10.1103. Why would my laptop even have this Intel graphic driver since it has an nVidia video chip? The version number predates the ones mentioned on the support page. Does this mean I must update this file before I can install SP 1?

I gave up waiting for SP1 on my laptop so I downloaded the service pack manual installation file and installed it myself. No problems.

I'm hesitant to do that because what if my machine isn't able to take SP1 (some out of date driver that I don't know about), then I try to install it and end up bricking my Windows? I really don't want to format and reinstall.

Yes, I guess it's a bit risky. With me, it's a brand new laptop so I assumed no drivers would be out of date and that all hardware was compatible. Fortunately I was right.

Perhaps there is a tool that will identify any potential problems. I know there is on the Vista DVD a tool that highlights problems when upgrading from XP but I haven't heard of a specific SP1 tool.

That's what I wish MS would make available for upgraders to SP1. God forbid!
