Solved [New Wide Screen Monitor] Problem

Running Core2 Duo Vista Ultimate 64 bit
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

My old monitor was a 4:3 aspect 17" and worked fine until it crapped out - it started flashing on and off rapidly.

I bought a Samsung 19" 16:9 aspect monitor
Then I returned it and got an I-Inc 19" 16:9 aspect monitor

Both exhibited the same problem
Everything is great for color, etc
[Both are on sale under $90]

BUT, I cannot get the screen to scroll down so I can see the bottom inch or 2 of several programs [including WarQuest]

I have tried changing the resolution, but it doesn't seem to make a real change in the display when I do

Any suggestions?
I already tried updating the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, and monitor, drivers

Hello, have you checked the center buttons on the monitor itself ? I have an 18.5 in wide screen monitor and i have buttons on the bottom that get all that straight .

If you go to the NVIDIA Control Panel and select Adjust Desktop...... and then choose the Size tab. There is a link to a help file which you may find very useful to stop the Overscan when using your monitor controls, as suggested by Yard Dog.

You may also find Display Scaling to be of help.

In NVIDIA Control Panel, mine has Adjust Desktop Size and Position, and the 2 tabs are Scaling and Position, but neither made a REAL difference [mostly the screen display icon in the tab was changed, but the Apply button made no change to the actual display.
The only Help is the Help menu at top. Nothing about overscan
I did a search for 'overscan' and found 2 listings, both refer to a resizing tab.

Apparently I am working with VGA (with EDID), which allows only Scaling, not Resizing.

My thoughts are, If the driver is installed, and your buttons to set the picture will not work, then I would return that monitor and get another brand. It is possible that the thing is just faulty .

Yanno , it is always possible that the driver for the monitor is corrupted, ya could try to download the driver and try a brand new install of the driver . Just a thought .

I did reinstall driver, and I tried a brand new install, no luck

You could look in the Options for the programs that give you the problem and see if there's a fit to screen option.

Helped with 1, but not the game I want to play [and could if I could see all of the screen.
I'll have to write to Admin and see if they can fix it.

You have an Admin which lets you play games at work or is that the name of the software owners?

I'd say if its just the game, your game resolution is wrong... But i might be missing something

Is this a 3 D game?

Look in your user's manual to find out the "native resolution" which is the resolution that the monitor is designed for; the picture might not look right if it isn't at that resolution. Change it to that resolution and see if that helps.
