How to Fix the New Folder Context Menu Item in Vista​

   Information

If when you right click on the desktop or in a User folder and click on New and Folder it does not work, then this will show you how to fix the Folder menu item so it will create a new folder again.

   Tip

• If you also cannot rename a normal file or folder and not just a New Folder, then also see: Cannot Rename or Move a File or Folder in Vista Fix
• If New is also missing from the context menu, then see: How to Restore or Remove New from the Context Menu in Vista

EXAMPLE: New Folder in the Context Menu and a New Folder
NOTE: You see this context menu only when you right click on a empty space on the desktop and in a nonsystem folder (Ex: C:\Users) Windows Explorer window. If you right on a empty space in a system folder (Ex: C:\Program Files, C:\Windows, etc...} Windows Explorer window, you will only see Folder in the New menu.

EXAMPLE: New Folder in the Organize Toolbar Button
NOTE: This is the Organize toolbar button in Windows Explorer.

EXAMPLE: New Folder in the File Menu
NOTE: This in the Windows Explorer Menu bar. It is not availale in the Computer window though.

Here's How:

1. Click on the download button below to download the NewFolderFix.reg file.​

​

​

2. Right click on the downloaded NewFolderFix.reg file and click on Merge to add it to your registry.​

​

3. Click on the Run button in the Security Warning prompt.​

​

4. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.​

​

5. Click on Yes in the confirmation prompt.​

​

6. Click on OK in the success prompt.​

​

7. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply the fix.​

​

8. When done, you can delete the NewFolderFix.reg on the desktop if you would like to.​

NOTE: If the problem still persists, then do a System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem. ​

Sorry about that ReD_FoX. I never know what people know and don't know, so I just include it to be safe.

Well, other than a complete reinstall, you can do a Repair install to fix this. This totorial will show you how to. I was hoping to not have to go this extreme, but it seems we looked at all the easier options with no luck.

shawn , actully i didn't have DVD for vista windows because i bought the laptop and the orginal windows existed in it !!

I want to thank for supported my by solution but all of these solution doesn't work with me

I feel boring from vista windows and i think to change it to XP pro , it's better , faster and doesn't have many problems like vista windows , my windows now it's very slow and the startup it's too slowly also !!

when i open a media file and increased volume , the windows became very slowly and the video screen stop onle the sounds are played !!

previously , i had a big problem !! , the problem is when i open a specific file in my document my windows give my a message that i have error , the desktop icons disappear !! only the wallpeaper still exist !! , i try to solve it but i can't and the only way to solve these problem is by recovery product , it's CD become with laptop that's when you use it the laptop will recovery your windows as the first time you use it , but it will delet every thing

I think to do it but when i stop thinking about it , if i do it after some time the same problem that i had before i will have it in future !!

That pretty much just leaves a reinstall of Vista left to do. I would backup anything that you did not want to lose first.

Your laptop should have a Recovery Partition that will allow you to reinstall Vista. Normally you restart the computer and press something like F10 repeatedly during boot to enter the Recovery Manager. You will need to check your laptop's documentation for the exact key to press, or it may tell you durring boot what key to press for Recovery.

No problem. What brand of computer do you have? I will post a link for their recovery instructions for you.

Yes, doing this will wipe your hard drive clean and reinstall Vista. It is recommended to backup what you do not want to lose.

See if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem can fix this for you. This tutorial will show you how to if needed.

After 2 hours on the phone with MS Support and no fix, I was about to do a full system restore. Luckily, I decided to search the web first when I came across your Fix. Hiii am still facing the same problem of renaming the folders.....the message is " files or folder does not exists" even though i installed the above mentioned file and merged it......and when i do system restore does not restore properly and syatem restore failure message appears....thanks for ur help......do u know any thing else tht could be done.....cheers
