Need HELP with vista recovery manager freezing

Hi all. I am attempting to fix my computer by myself instead of buying a new tower or paying HP for tech support. I have an HP m8100n and I decided to set it back to factory image since it's quite a few years old and was running pretty slowly. I moved all of my inportant files over to my external hard drive and then used the Recovery Disks that I made when I first got the comp. Everytime I get to disk 2 of the recovery, the system freezes up at 21% of reinstalling original content. All I have are the 2 recovery disks, and a bootable diagnostic disk that I was also prompted to make when I first got it. I ran the diagnostic disk and it came back without any errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Use the factory restoration partition. If you dont know how, make and model of computer, please.

It sounds like your disk is bad. Do you still have the recovery partition? If no you can either pay HP for a recovery disk, buy 7, or install Linux.

I honeslty just want the easiest fix right now. But I am interested in upgrading to 7. I'm just kind of fed up with vista. What would that entail? How easy is it to do and how much is it going to be? I tried burning some more recovery disks with my laptop but it still froze at the same spot. Is it possible that I didn't burn them properly?

To get Seven you need to buy and Ugrade DVD. Those that say buy an OEM are not correct. To buy an OEM, you must make and sell the computer. An OEM is cheaper, but it is against the terms of the EULA, even though you can buy it.

If they all stop at the same spot then either they are burning bad, the source is bad, or you have hardware problems. Have you tried using the recovery partition?

I tried pressing F11 to get into the recovery partition and all it says on the screen is BOOTMGR is compressed Press ctrl alt del to restart

I also would just like to get Vista back on the comp. I don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on an OS right now. It's too close to Christmas and I have a very large family. I need to save as much money as possible for now. So getting back to Vista will be just fine with me. I just need my computer to work lol.

I cant get into that area. I push F11 and it goes to the BOOTMGR is compressed screen

If it were mine and I had vista, I would either call the computer manufacturer and try to get a vista install dvd for about $25.00
or
buy and upgrade Seven DVD and just install

UPDATE: I can't get the disks until January. I will post then to let you know whether or not it worked.

Bummer. You can buy a windows 7 upgrade disk if you don't want to wait.
