Need advice :)

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, the trustworthy IT guy at work recommended this forum for my questions:

The link below is to the computer I'm on the verge of buying. But, I'm not sure if it will be good for gaming now and in the future. I am torn between 64 bit and 32 bit. What I was thinking to do was to format my hard drive and reinstall 64 bit when the time comes (when all the bugs are worked out). I'm not worried about buying a new graphics card and RAM, as that's expected.

I also wanted to know if this CPU is Vista64 compatible?

Here is the link to the computer:

Systemax Venture VX2 Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate 4GB 1TB DVD±RW Combo NVIDIA 8800GT 512MB Video Intel D975XBX2 Motherboard 3 Year On-Site Warranty 989471 at TigerDirect.com

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Yes that machine will laugh at Vista64, the CPU should work fine. If it comes with Vista 64 preinstalled try it out and see what you think, if you have problems you can always put 32bit on as they give you "Ultimate". Vista "all flavours" has Directx10 so in terms of future gaming you should be fine. I haven't had any problems with Vista 64 and any of the games I play... so far.

Hope this helps

Andrew

Remember that if you want to use 4gig or more of ram 64bit is the only option ;)

Good point z3r010,

The rep @ Tiger Direct told me that Vista 32 uses "up to 3.49GB of RAM" so they just put 4GB to maximize it. On the other hand, I heard Vista 32 can only use 2.5GB. Which one is it?

Vista 32 can only address something like 3.2 GB....
Vista 64 on the other hand is more than happy with 128GB+... :D
I've just "upgraded" to 4GB in the last few days and all running fine and dandy.
