Ok, temperatures are following:

PCH: Value: 38 C (100 F), min 38 C (100 F), max 38 C (100 F)
CPU: Value: 51 C (123 F), min 51 C (123 F), max 54 C (129 F).

I have no programmes open at the moment though other than Chrome and HW monitor and it does seem to happen more often when I'm playing games. Do these numbers tell you anything, or should I try to play a game and then read them again?

Edit: Oops, there are more temperatures.

Intel Core i7 920

Core: Value: about 60 C (140 F), min 56 C (132 F), max 63 C (145 F)
It shows 4 cores (#0 to #3) and they're all jumping around a bit, but the values are pretty much identical.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

TMPIN0: Value 52 C (123 F), min 51 C (123 F), max 52 C (125 F)

I think we've found the problem. Even with the stress level only set to "standard" the cores very quickly got above 80 C and the CPU about 70 when I turned it off (because of the temperatures of the cores). Now... what can I do about it?

Okay, thanks a lot! I'll have to look to get some thermal paste. Regarding cleaning, will I have to take out some of the hardware to clean it properly?

I found a pretty nice video explaining rather well. I'll start right away and hopefully it'll fix it.

My Computer

I cleaned it now. Running burn test, standard level and google chrome. After running it for a minute the cores were about 80 C each, not rising. Now, about a minute after I stopped the test running only the HWmonitor, idle IntelBurn test and Chrome they seem to be are 55-60 C. When I just started the computer they were about 40-45 C. Does this look normal?

My Computer

Not really normal.

I'd really like to see them under 55C idle, under 80 at load, using a stock cooler and factory case.

What model of computer is this?

You do really need to repaste, the over heating probably has dried the old stuff. It should only be a half hour process.. especialy if you have the factory cooler.... Infact it might take longer using the factory cooler... ts a pain to remount!
