Microsoft Update KB2505189

I never have liked WLM and prefer Chrome over IE9, but that's just me.

kb2505189 was the last update my laptop received on 21 Mar 2011. I have not had an update since then because I get advised that windows update "cannot check for updates". If I make it look for updates, the panel tells me that error code 80070002 applies. I have tried the advised fix for this but to no avail. Hair tearing time. Please someone help me.

Hi Rich, I tried the error code 80070002 fix but to no avail. The last update listed was KB2505189 which is probably the one that is causing the problem. Someonr else has suggested that uninstalling that update could and has solved the problem. I tried this ploy but the uninstal said it was unable to complete the process. What next? For added info, I get the message that update 3 of 3 is O percent complete after the computer has booted up: this then disappears and my login password is requested. At close down, I am told that updates are being processed and not to shut down: this then disappears and the shutdown completes. CooperVF

Hi Rich, Being a very backward user, I have never set a restore that I know of so that is not an option. It is clear that I am my own worst enemy but why does MS make life so difficult with their repeated glitches? Is it possible that my Norton 2011, installed at the end of March, is the problem? I cant say if that is the problem, but, we tell members use Microsoft Security Essentials in conjuction with a weekly scan from the free Malwarebytes. Essentials was made by Microsoft especially and only for Windows.
Give this a try, for both Vista or Seven

It may sound a bit absurd but still I am gonna take the risk.

Does this update also apply for windows 7 and are the same issues also reported for systems running on windows 7 ?

Tanuj, I would have no way of knowing the answer to your question. I have Vista Home Premium and cannot afford to update to Win 7, not that any improvement can be guaranteed even then. CooperVF

Cooper and Tanuj,
I had Vista Home Basic and went to Windows 7 Home Premium.
That reset that Bill gave you will work for both OS's.
Then make sure you back up your system and let us know if more help needed.
