Memory Optimizer?

No problem. Those you've listed above are the easy ones to deal with, its the built in windows services that you really need to take notice off.

Theres a few easy one like Remote Registry that you can disable so that people cant change your registry from another pc and all the Windows Media Centre services if you dont use Media Centre etc.

For a laptop id class 68 as too many. Really you want to get that number down to around 40.

Every process is using RAM and also CPU time. When your laptop is idle which means you've closed all open windows and are not using the pc, there is a process in Task Manager thats called System Idle Process that should read 99 under the CPU header which indicates that all system tasks are taking less than 1% off your cpu.

Use the tune up utilities and see if you can get rid of any startup items and then click the link in my signature and do Step 11. That step deals with Services running and if you are not comfortable changing settings there, then dont :).
Well, I managed to get it to 50. Will that be ok?:p

No.

Ha ha, no im only joking. If 50 is as low as you can get get it and still be able to use your laptop for what you need, then 50 it will have to be.

In the Task Manager after you've rebooted and havent open any apps if its showing 50 processes then thats a lot better.. You'll be able to tell over the next few days if everythings fine and over time you may be able to go and reduce that number further when you get more used to dealing with the Services.

another way

start/programs/acesories/run

in the run box type msconfig and hit return

look in the startup tab , everything there can be safely disabled HOWEVER you need to make sure you dont turn off any proceses related to yuor firewall.antivirus , if your unsure just google each process ,

then select the services tab , put a check in the "hide all microsoft services" tab (that bit is important) then again everything there can be safely disabled as long as you make sure you leave anything relating to your security enabled.

under services as Stew mentioned you can disable alot of stuff there for example if you dont watch tv on your pc there are a whole heap of processes in media player that can be turned off again if your unsure google is your friend :) If you highlight any task under services it will give you a description of what it does

you mentioned apple mobile device , if you use i tunes you will need to leave this enabled or your i pod wont sync up
