Left UAC off...Huge virus problems

I have seen NOD32 when I tried it on Vista, generate a false positive for spyware in the EMUSIC download manager, when in fact there is none in it. I had a friend who used Avast up until last year, when he installed Live OneCare, and Live OneCare up and detected a virus that Avast missed entirely. It's incidents like this, as to why I lost faith in a lot of programs.

deleted wininet.ini in C:\windows. It was for smitfraud-c.bs.

I might try Live Onecare. I don't trust Microsoft to do it right either.

It is starting to act normal again. S&D and Trendmicro did not find anything the last three scans.

It seemed legitmate. You have to read their methods and determine what they are doing and how they are doing it. I find when they offer unknown software to clean it up is when you need to do a second look.

I hope S&D and other apps go 64-bit sooner than later. I would love to see a corporate paid version of this S&D. I am looking at the new HP switches with virus detection modules on them for our corporate network.

I am using the latest version of S&D. My problem is 32-bit apps don't work with the 64-bit registry properly. I check for updates each time.

This CNN thing is really making rounds - I have a honeypot email address that is getting something on the order of 5-10 of these per day, and that is just one email address - and I have 10....

I have already seen close to 70 of these suckers now - and they keep coming.

BTW, anyone not familiar with the site - the board has a habit of displaying the web page title when we post URLs, but the URL is to a site called BleepingComputer, a ***very* good site for security and end user tutorials
