It might be a new problem they dont know about with Shockwave, Have you tried contacting them for support so they can update and share any fix they find?

Hello:
I have Vista home premium, 32 bit. I have done everything I can think of, & shockwave player 11 still won't work. I have uninstalled shockwave 10, I have done this in safe mode, I have reinstalled in safe mode etc,,. at least 5 times. I redownloaded from adobe twice to make sure nothing wrong there. I've also done this using open as administrater.
After I install it says you have sucessfully installed shockwave player 11, it is in my software that is on my pc, it is listed in my IE plugins.
I test it at Adobe website to see if installed, but I get this message:
Unable to open file http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/dir.dcr" because it is already open with write permission by another user.
I get this message every time shockwave player needs to be used. I have read all over this forum, and on the web, and can find no answer to my problem
Should I just wait for shockwave player 12? and hope this problem is resloved?

I e-mailed but received no reply. They only reply it seems to paid for software, which I don't have with them. I'll to e-mail them again, otherwise I will hope they fix it.

Hi Max,

You may or may not ever fix your Shockwave problem.

Its a issue with Adobe and Shockwave not Vista...We cant really help or there would be information available to us for solving the issue SO your only option is to contact them or you will never get it fixed.

When I set up a new PC for one of my customers, I like to install the latest Firefox and the latest Shockwave, Flash Player and I.E.Tab.
That increases the functionality of FF without loading the system down with needless Add-Ons.

So my question..... is this latest version of Shockwave still compatible with XP?
Or, is it a 'Vista Only' app?

Curious minds want to know.:D

If your DEP option is disabled (greyed out) in IE Settings, you haven't opened IE in "Administrator mode". Note that the DEP option is not listed in IE Settings if you are specifically running the Internet Explorer 64-bit version listed in Start | Programs.

you must right-click the IE icon and select "Run as administrator"

You are a bit late, Brink already told me what to do earlier in the day on Friday. Thanks anyway.

Now if Adobe would get the lead out, and put out a 64bit Flash player and 64bit Shockwave player I would start using 64bit IE7 exclusively.

Just to be sure, this is not the same as Adobe Flash Player.

Have you already tried downloading Adobe Shockwave from the link on the first post in this thread? It has the latest version there.

I tried, and it will not go through. The computer says that I have to click a gold bar to let it go through, but there is no gold bar. It just won't download. Will I have damage to my computer is I don't do this?

Also, you might try downloading it from here to see if the active x bar will appear on IE8. If it does, then just click on it and choose Download file. Then allow any prompts that may follow.

If you use a different browser than IE8, say Firefox, you can download it from here and save it on your computer, then close your browsers and try to install it.

The bar may take a few seconds or so to appear in IE8. If it still doesn't, you might try resetting IE8, and then try it again.
