did they fix the completely unnecessary addition of two processes, the protected mode, and whatnot? or am I putting holds on updating the household's stable of machines to the new builds?

It runs in the background to check for updates for Adobe Flash Player every so often.

You can go into Control Panel (classic view), click on the Flash Player (32-bit) icon, Advanced tab, Change Update Settings, select the Never check option, close, and log off and on.

what if I dont have that in control panel? for some reason I've never had a flash icon in the control panel...

For me the .exe file for this is at the location below in Windows 7. You might check to see if you have it in Vista.

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerApp.exe

the only settings manager I've had access to the past half dozen updates or so was the web settings panel on the adobe flash site.....

stupid.. as it doesnt do a thing when I tell it not to check for updates..

Has the automatic update worked for anyone?

The old update notification mechanism (which you can still opt for) never worked for me anyway. Only when a new update was available and I happened to restart would I be notified.

Don't remeber being notified for a Java update as well, although I tend to update when it first comes out so maybe I'm too fast on the draw.

For the last few days I was trying to help someone with the update process and I learned happily today that their auto-updater is working and that they were automatically updated to .270. So why is .270 only available through stand alone when it's being auto-updated?
