Latest DirectX Update

Can you please tell me the difference between to two links above?

One just downloads and installs the files that are missing and/or need updating (less than 10 MB usually); the other is the complete download that contains all DX files (both 9 and 10) and is a shade over 92 MB, and once installed the downloaded file can be deleted.

Ideally if you have run the redistributable in the past you should only need to run the smaller runtime update.

Oh and at senthurpandian,

1. As johngalt said no.

2. CS:S is a DX 9 game, you can't force it to use DX 10. Doesn't matter whether the OS, the hardware and everything else supports DX 10, if the game wasn't written to use DX 10 you it won't.

Oh and nice copy of Vista there. Really wish people would stop advertising that they are using illegal copies.

hey, do i download the:

DirectX End-User Runtime
or
DirectX Redist (March 2009)
or BOTH??

Sorry if thats a stupid question...??

Hi MGally,

The End-User Runtime only contains and supports the most commonly used DirectX librarys while the Redist contains everything, I highly recommend installing the Redist Package ;)

I installed the new update for DirectX 10 a few days ago, and it has caused the sound in my games to become distorted. I've never had this problem before, so how can I reverse the update changes?

My Computer

I think you can go to add remove and uninstall it that way. I have it installed on mine and haven`t had any problems with it . Good luck

Does SP2 include this DirectX Update
or do we still need to download and install it?

Thanks

Hi Manigue , I found this on Microsofts web site

DirectX 9.0c. The latest, most secure DirectX components include updates to address a network firewall change that affects OEM preinstallations and DirectPlay and allow for enjoyment of advanced graphics and gaming.

You can read it here :
http://http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/newsroom/winxp/windowsxpspfs.mspx
Hope it helps you

I didn't think there was a DirectX 10 updater like there was for DirectX 9. I mean I've never found one, but please prove me wrong.

You can find the information here

There isn't. It used to be called the "DirectX 9.0c" (or whatever was the current version at the time) redistributable or web installer, they changed it to just "DirectX End-User Runtime" shortly before Vista launched as the update then contained updates for both DX9 and DX10.

Ah, I always wondered about that. Thanks for the heads up. Does the redistributable include DX10 as well?

My Computer

Yes. Only difference between the redistributable and the web installer is the size; the redistributable is the full DirectX update (current one is ~92 MB, and recommended to use on a new Windows install), where the web installer is a small file that when run only downloads the directX files that are missing or been updated (last time I ran it it downloaded I think it was 8 or 8 files that was less than 5 MB).
