is windows 8 better than vista?

to put the processor side of things into context. my father mainly uses his laptop for internet email watching some movies and streaming movies. no heavy tasks. this is what he has right now
PassMark - Intel Celeron M 540 @ 1.86GHz - Price performance comparison

and these are what hes thinking of moving to
PassMark - Intel Pentium 967 @ 1.30GHz - Price performance comparison

PassMark - Intel Pentium B970 @ 2.30GHz - Price performance comparison

PassMark - Intel Core i3-2330M @ 2.20GHz - Price performance comparison

these are all in laptops he is considering obviously there are other deciding factors price value for money HDD size RAM HDMI inc Win7 or Win8 battery life etc etc

but from what i can see even the lowest benchmarked cpu (over double his current cpu bench) would be a marked improvement for him performance wise probably more than he could use or appreciate in terms of processing power.

sorry missed one

If you just buy and bid then there is no fees except maybe a shipping fee which is stated from the seller. But if you sell anything then ebay charges you $5.00 a month, they charged me once for selling items and I never paid them and closed my selling account. Plus paypal takes 20% of the money you make on sales which is stupid. I don't get into bidding or selling, I just look for the things I need and always check the buy it now option, no fees involved.

P.S Your dad is like my dad on what he uses his for, and I would say any of those processors could handle HD youtube videos, which for him would be the most hes taxing the processor. All of them should work for light work and HD video playback.

If there was someplace where it was stipulated there's a fee per bid or exactly what fees were charged, I certainly didn't see it. I think that's the idea. They rely on the fact that it isn't worth it for people scammed out of $5 or $10 to expend any time, money, or effort to get it back.

That's not the type of outfit I want to frequent.

On ebay only the seller is charged unlike another site I know of which charges bidders even if they lose. If you had a charge after the auction was over either there was a fluke in the system or the winner backed out in which case as the runner up the auction would have gone to you.

I don't remember who it is just that you have to buy and use tokens to bid. I wouldn't mind any such small fee for purchasing an item after all the company needs to make money however I don't want to have to pay a fee to bid when I can be outbid only to have to bid again or lose the auction.

I think your talking about quibids, where each bid you have to pay for. This article here sums it up.

Quibids.com Reviews - Legit or Scam?

No. I never went on Quibids. It was eBay and they charged me a fee for a single bid. Something like $6 when bidding on a $12 item. No more for me dude. Like you say, buy outright or fly.

Especially when you're not told up front what the fees are and when they are applied. Like I say, nobody is going to hire an attorney to get $6 back. They just skate on it.

edit: anyway this if off topic. The OP is trying to decide on a laptop. :)

If your father is like my parents who aren't tech savvy and uncomfortable with change, I strongly recommend avoiding Windows 8. It's radically different. Windows Vista or Windows 7 is the way to go.
