it runs as you said i t should until it comes to the log file
where i am greeted by a message saying:
cannot find the C:\Program Files\ Trend Micro\HiJackThis\hijackthis.log file

do you want to create a new file?

yes no cancel

no matter which of those i click it stays blank
i have also tried creating that file manually
and re-installing it

My Computer

Where have you downloaded HJT to? Is it in C:\Program files? If so, look in the folder C:\Program Files\ Trend Micro\HiJackThis and see if there is an icon that looks like notepad. That will be the HJT log. Just copy and paste the contents.

Let's try renaming it to sharman.exe. Now Click 'Do a System Scan and Save logfile'.
The HJT log will open in notepad. (I hope!)
