Internet drops on vista!!??

Hey,

Thanks for the information. I've purchased a linksys NIC for the computer and I'm going to install it this weekend. Maybe then it will work with the linksys router. I can always hope!

Thanks,
Tev

I came across this thread while searching for the same problem that others have apparently had under vista ultimate x64. In my case IE and Firefox had lost connectivity with the Internet. Yet, at the very same time, I was running MS Virtual PC with Windows XP as the OS. In that window, Firefox continued to work. Reading the post from Wildeagle 4 weeks ago (post #6) I checked to see if my QOS Package Scheduler was checked as he suggested. In my case it was. On a whim, I UNCHECKED it. Voila. IE and Firefox began working under Vista. Go figure. Perhaps playing with this option will help others with a similar problem.

What ultimately fixed this mess for me, was to set my computer up with a local static IP address. Since I did that I don't have problems with getting disconnected from my network and the internet.

Try in the services list, WLAN AutoConfig, Recovery tab, third one down change from Take no action to Restart the service. All should be like this.

Give her a try.

What the trouble actually turned out to be for me was the AMBIT cable modem I had.

Piece of junk dumped me off the net a little over a week ago, and then on Wednesday, my download speed was down to 500k. I was away from the house that day, and when I came home, another disconnect had, had happened while I was away. The only way I could get things going again, was to unplug the AMBIT Cable modem for a few minutes, then everything was pretty much back to normal until another disconnect that night.

On Thursday March 13TH, I bought a Motorola Surfboard 5101 cable modem at a local store, had that proivisioned in to place the day I bought it, by the cable company and haven't had any disconnect issues since. Friggin cable company admitted that there was a problem with the AMBIT Cable modem, and the Linksys WRT54G Wireless G router.

I disabled "Symantec Lic Net Connect Service" as I am not using any Symantec products in Services. Then my Internet connection started to drop very often. I changed SLNS back to manual and my Internet problems have gone. I hope this will be helpful to someone.

just a thought. make sure you uncheck the box in your power management settings of your nic. that allows the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Ideally, that should only occur when the system goes into an S state (standby, hibernation, etc)... But if for some reason Vista is powering down the device while it's in use... ick, that's just bad.

I did some searching on the net, and in a pretty good portion of posts I've seen on the net, most of the trouble turns to to be the AMBIT cable modem a portion of CABLE ISP's in the United States and other parts of the world like Europe and Austrailia use. What the fix turns out to be in those cases, is people pull out the AMBIT cable modem, and put for example a Motorola Cable modem in place and the trouble with internet connection drops quits entirely.

The other part of disconnect issues I've seen in some posts is people are using the Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G router, which has history of overheating and dropping connection since it first come out in over 4 years ago. In cases where the router I mention is the problem, people did not get rid of the problem, until they either put a fan on the router I mentioned some how, or replaced it with another brand of router.

I put the Motorola Surfboard 5101 cable modem in place back in March, and haven't had no trouble with dropped internet connections since.

i was experiencing the disconnect issues all weekend, but i have seen where that option will disable the device when the computer is in an idle state and when you actuly go back to it it doesnt turn it back on. i updated my drivers. it fixed it so far.
