Installers for Vista

Hi staybolt,

Macrium uses an .exe - if that helps.

Hope fully, after the repair install - all will be well and you can then switch to one of the other backup apps. - or stay with Macrium - it's very good.

That's odd - I have a Dell disc - it is pretty much a regular Vista install disc ( it has the product key included) Otherwise - all the same options as the MS vista installation media.

SIW2,

I think I already tried that, but will give it another shot in case I didn't. I've been all over the Internet and in every BB I can find. Nothing has worked and I am not going to lose what I do have by formating my drive.

This is really the pits.

Since someone said version 4.5 came with SP2 I was going to uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks for helping me. I will let you know if I get it worked out.

The Dell disk does have the product key with it. But, when I run the repair it ends with the statement I must reinstall the whole Vista system from scratch. I'll run it again anyway and see what happens.

Probably because your installation has a more recent SP than the dell disk.

Do you have all your data mixed in with Vista like a dog's dinner - or do you have your data on separate partitions?

If you want to back up 650gb - you are looking at 650 minutes and an image of 400gb.

If you do have your HD in several partitions , rather than just one - then post a screenie of the Disk Management window - there will an easier way if you do have separate partitions.

All on one partition. (Unfortunately) That was the way the system came and I never partitioned it.
