Solved Information relating to RogueKiller software.

Re: Information relating to Rogue Killer software.

Well DonnaB, I now require to login each time, remember me is ticked. Avast free is really full of payment only files, still as you recommended Avast Anti virus, I will give it a try. I note the Grime Fighter is still shown as a payment file.
Well, this software is certainly one to give a wide berth - it claims to be still learning, removes files without prior
warning, simply removes and in my case required the computer to be set back to factory settings. I claimed
my money back, refunded but no apology for the mess computer was left in. Your advice, removed Clean Master,
Google Chrome. My two Weather stations are now at times, refuse to load, I think cause is Windows Explorer, has
not been working properly for sometime now. Thanks for your interest and assistance to clean up computer, most
appreciated, BobbyScot.

What do you mean by the following:

Your advice, removed Clean Master,Google Chrome.
I understand that I asked you to uninstall Clean Master, but, from what I see in the FRST.txt and Addition.txt logs that you attached, Google Chrome is not installed.

Did you download and install Avast?

I just need to know what troubles you are having so I know what to do next. Please, do not download and install anything unless I ask you to. If you download and install programs, it will change the system and I will have to get new logs to see what has changed.

Oh dear! what I really meant was, as you suggested it would be best to remove Clean Master. I certainly noted of what you said about 360 Total Security and replaced with Avast. Avast did install Google Chrome, which I removed. Avast at each power up, pops up captions about software relating to itself. One other item that really bothers me for a long time now, is the fact, no longer able to make a "restore point". Each time a caption shows reason being a "Catastrophic Error x.0800ff. Several factory settings, computer has never cured this error. Thanks BobbyScot.

Yes. Please do uninstall Clean Master if you haven't already. I believe you have the wrong idea about optimizing software that say they will clean your system and speed it up. These types of programs are no good for your system and will do more harm than good.

Couple of questions for you: :)

1.) When you installed Avast, did you uninstall 360 Total Security from the Control Panel > Programs and Features?

2.) When you installed Avast, did you pay close attention to not install the 30 day trial for the paid version of Avast? If you didn't, this could be why you are getting those pop ups.

Also, when installing Avast, it appears that you did not pay close attention to all the screen presented to you. There should have been a screen presented to you during the installation that pointed out that you will need to uncheck the option concerning Google Chrome of you did not want Google Chrome installed.

Most free software will have other bundled software included that the host to the download link will try to force you to install, if you want it or not, along with the software that you want to install, so you have to take your time and pay close attention when installing any free software to prevent software that you do not want from being installed.

I would like for you to install the following program. This software is for those who tend to have poor downloading habits. Anytime that you go to download any software, during installation of software, it is designed to detect any pre-checked boxes for bundled software that is included in the download and will uncheck those boxes to prevent that unwanted software from being installed. If I had thought to have you install Unchecky before you installed Avast, Google Chrome would not have been installed and you would not have been bothered by having to uninstall it.

Please download >>Unchecky<<
  • Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
  • click the very large Download button.
  • click Save
  • Click Open folder
  • Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
  • Once open click the Install button.
  • Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep any unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme ;)

Let me know when you are done installing Unchecky and I will provide the instructions to get fresh FRST.txt/Addition.txt logs to see what has been changed.

Whatever you do, please do not install or uninstall anything else unless I ask you to. That will only mare our clean up job here harder and take longer to finish. :)

DonnaB, well after all carried out, computer is rather slow to power up, now twice slower than before. Two programs ceased to be current and one required reinstalling. Clicking various Desktop icons are now slower to respond.
I un-installed 360 Total Security using my faithful Revo Premium software. Avast was installed as free version and all
boxes where ticked as required. At all times, I read most carefully instructions, tick/un-tick boxes as I require. One box relating to Google or other similar are always unticked as I certainly do not like them or wish to use. I will try your "Unchecky", but must say trying other programs from time to time have proved to be catastrophic. I do admit that I believe at first that software optimising computer are good and I as many like myself do regret doing so.
Unchecky is now part of my computer!! Thanks BobbyScot

Hi bobbyscot,

How old is your computer? Let's finish cleaning files up here and I'll have you run some diagnostic scans to check the hardware.

Don't worry, I am going to remove my tools when we are finished here. Ok?

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Disable your AV protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking on XP. Or right click and select Run as Administrator Vista/Win7 and above.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

Next:

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Note: Windows Vista, Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin. Be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • Once the initial scan is complete, click on the Cleaning button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

In your next reply, please post to following logs:

JRT.txt
AdwCleaner[S0].txt

Thank you,
Donna :)

When you try to create a restore point, what exact error message do you get?
Let's check those services:

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center/Action Center
    • Windows Update
    • Windows Defenders
    • Other Services
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

I am off to work. Back later today.

Donna :)

Hi bobbyscot,

I am so sorry for the delay.

I am not quite sure what is going on with your computer. My first thoughts are registry corruption due to the cleaning\optimizing tools used in the past.

I would like to see another set of FRST and Addition logs to see what changes have been made thus far:

  • Right click on the FRST icon and choose "Run as administrator" (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Under Optional Scan place a checkmark in the box for Addition.txt to ensure it creates that 2nd log.
  • Press Scan button.
  • Please attach both logs in your next reply.
