IE won't run from Start Menu but......

Friend of mine has Home Premium. If he tries to run IE from the Start Menu or the Quick Launch bar, it doesn't load. Gets a message referring to "IE Crash Detection". Can't see this add-on loading anywhere.

I created a desktop shortcut directly from the .EXE in \Program files\Internet Explorer and this works perfectly.

Any ideas, people?

Welcome to the forum.

I would delete the shortcuts from the Start Menu and Quick Launch, then create a new one and copy them there. This tutorial will show you how to create a fully functional IE7 shortcut like the one in the pinned section of the Start Menu instead of a regular shortcut.

Appreciate your response and will try soonest.

But would you or anyone else know why it has happened? IE on my friend's Vista machine was fine, then went like this for no reason (no new hardware/software installed). What could affect the shortcuts on the Start Menu and Quick Launch Menu?

It is caused when the shortcut's "Target" to the .exe program file is incorrect in the shortcut's Properties.

This can happen when:
1. The target is manually changed from the shortcut's properties.
2. The .exe program was deleted or moved.
3. The shortcut was made from another shortcut and it was deleted or moved.
