Strange indeed. What it seems to imply is that IE7 somehow became corrupted or didn't report back the correct version when interrogated, quite how might remain a mystery. It's more of a puzzle as to why SFC didn't pick this up. However, I'm glad that you have now managed to install this program, even though you had to install IE8 (beta2) to do so.

What do I do to verify the integrity of my IE7?

About the only thing you can do is to try and fix IE7 other than reinstall Vista is to run a sfc /scannow command or reset IE7.

That is what is puzzling. I had suggested that this was done in an earlier post of mine, and yet the reply was that nothing was found.

Yeah, the only thing I can guess is that something was installed that messed it up. Hopefully installing the IE8 Beta had fixed it. If IE8 is ever uninstalled, it should set IE7 back to default.

I Have removed IE8 and the application semms to work... I cannot explain this!
However I'm happy 'couse IconViewer works :D

Carmine, I'm happy to hear that you got it working now.

Installing and uninstalling IE8 would have reset IE7 completely back to default.
