i would like help with my new system???

hi ,i recently bought a new system costing £549.00. details below are what i know it has in it,what id like to know is that if anyone has ever heard of my system manufacturer-DIXONSXP?? im a little worried because i bought this off the shelf as it was the last one,i got two free games call of duty 4 and crysis but they wont work???,id also like to know if i can upgrade the memory from 1.00gb to at least 3.00gb? i have two memory slots and one is free the other has the 1.00gb card.any help on that would be appreciated.
also
am thinking the games dont work because of the graphics card i have,can i upgrade it? what ones the best? and what type do i need? am looking at the nvida geforce 8800gt or 8900gt or xfx 9600gt????, i dont have wads of cash so i want a budget of £150.00 to get the games working as well as others any help again?,

1.00gb ram
intel 82945g express chipset family graphics
250mb graphics memory
147gb hard disk
32bit operating vista system

hi thanks,sadly am waiting on getting fully activated so a cant download the pro yet,will do when am up and running.
sad but av just bought my pc as well,but all i was thinking about doing was upgrading the memory and graphics card but i guess you dont advise that?,
a dont understand either because call of duty 4 and crysis were free in the box???,am just wondering because it was a demo on the shelf? do you think a should return it?

NOT YET.....

lets have a look at the specs first....
you will be able to add more ram, or better ram no doubt
& if your running on board graphics, maybe your motherboard has a PCI-e slot
so it may not be all that bad.

though your CPU is very slow & its quite an old socket (i think) ...so im guessing the board aint up to much...

be patient ....get the results up & we will go from there...

It's no more than a £200 PC!!! certainly not worth £549

i think everything else is worth more than the base unit its self!,thanks for reply z3r010,the thing is my system base scores aint that bad apart from the graphics and gaming graphics they rate 2.7.could be worse it could have a score of 1.0.

more memory av been looking at but what to buy yet a dont know,av got 2 memory slots and 1 is used with a 1.00gb stick,can i take that out and replace 2x 1.00gb or would a get away with a 2.00gb and try for a 3.00gb system? av read that memory has to be of the same make?,its 240 pin-ddr2 dimm pc2-4200(533mhz) type memory cards required.
also i note your reply on my motherboard? am a littlt confused cant i just buy a good graphics card and place it in???

is it like this....?? though you say you only have 2 memory slots.

you also need to let me know what power supply you have..??
for that you need to open the case & let me know the brand & wattage...

OK.... your board will take 4gb of RAM at a speed of 667mhz (which is faster than you are currently running)...

you can upgrade your processor to dual core

you can upgrade your graphics through the x16 PCI-e slot

its just a question of...if you wanna pile more money into an ageing 945 chipset..??

it will cost a few quid..... im guessing the PSU you have is the Generic one that came with the case ...that may also have to go...

IMHO... its not worth the hassle but to answer your question ''it is possible''

yes it can be done DIY.... at a cost

your motherboard is old ... is there no way you can return it..??
b/c for £550 i can list some great parts that will leave that rig in the dust.

Duncan, please return it as soon as possible and don't waste any more time and money on it. Then come back to post you budget and what you need a computer for such as gaming or something. We will help you to find one and if you like to built one yourself we can put up a parts list for you. Then you will be very happy and play your games. good luck.

Thanks for the message,unfortunately i have been told am past my 14days return policy and they are unwilling to accept full return of the system.
Av got lots of advice and learned one or two things now but been quoted between £50-£800 to upgrade.
