I have huge problems!!!

Okay first . I am a teacher. I am not a tech person. Limited brain cells. So if anyone gives me advice on how to fix my problem please make it as simple as possible.

This is how this whole thing got started:

1. I went to weebly to create a teacher web page.
2. Weebly wanted me to upgrade my flash to a higher version.
3. I downloaded,Flash 10. Or so I thought. Actually its an emperors clothes.
4. I deleted Flash 8 and 9. Even in the recyle bin.
5. I tried to install Flash 10, and the installer would not work.
6. I turned off the UAC and ran as an administrator. Still no luck.
7. Then I installed the uninstaller and tried 10 again. No luck.
8. So then I called Adobe who said they couldn't help.
9. SO I have Adobe, the machine says it is installed, the flash, but when I go to Utube I can't watch anything becuase like I said, the emperors clothes thing. It's there but not really there communicating. Which means it wasn't really Installed by installer, or installer forgot some drivers or took it in part. But either way I need to have this thing fixed.

So who is willing to help?

First I think teaching is one of the most under appreciated professions. Regardless of what you have acheived it is because of good teachers.

In any event.

Using system restore, go back to the point before you started doing anything. Then with the uninstaller unistall all other versions of Flash.

Then install from the website. Your problem is probably caused because remanants of the old install are still there.

I need the explicit step by step. How do I find Flash and uninstall it. Every remnant of it? Can you make a Jing video for me? :geek: Or can you map it out, with step 1, step 2, etc...

I tried to do a restore point, but it did not help.

If you go back to a restore point prior to installing flash, it will all be removed. If that does not work (but I do not know how it would not) use the uninstaller method. Thats all that there is to it.

I have made a screen shot of what revo looks like.
Just pick the flah player and follow the prompts.
Just to let you know there are 3 levels to use
regular, recommended,and advanced.
Do the recommended one.
Advance will include all folders and reg entries.

Like I said make a restore point before starting just in case.

Rick,

I just tried this. The machine took a very long to restart. There was a black screen for a VERY long time and I was really worried. But it did come back. I still cannot install Flash. This is the error I now get. "Failed to install for trouble shooting tips go to Troubleshoot Flash Player installation for Windows.

This happened way before too. When it happened before I typed tn_19166 into google and found the page with another list of instructions as what to do. You can do the same, but I've already done it for the past 2 days so I am not going to try again.

What do you suggest I do now?

At this point, I suggest that you try the advice given by Jimmy. I do not understand why System Restore did not work, but no use crying over spilt milk. I have used and like revo; I just prefer system restore. Give revo a try and then get back. Incidentally, I have suggested revo to many posters in different situations and it always worked.

Richard,

I tried the revo uninstaller 2 times and it still is not working. I swear this is a driver issue. The reason why I say this is because when I tried to install Captivate on Vista, elearning the SAME thing happened.

I've downloaded other programs, including revo and they work! But when I download Adobe Flash 10, even the exe version, the program is downloaded to the machine/desktop, via Firefox (NOT IE- it won't work - the installer denies the app), I can execute/install the program- it opens up, but it does NOT work!

How do I know? I go to a flash supported site and nothing, nothing pops up. Nothing works!

Its a communication problem - it just has to be and there has to be a patch made.
I gave the computer to the big tech guy at the University. And even he saw what I was talking about.

He's never seen it. He tried to solve and couldn't either.

So what now, Rick?

I feel like handing off this machine to you so you can witness the problem first hand! I might even have to you tube this for you. Oh, right I can't!

I can't even use my captivate, or jing, or anything else, because I can't do the flash which everything runs on because I've got Vista!

I would reboot the whole thing, but then I am back to square negative 100, because of the issues with Captivate and vista. It was a nightmare!

Listen...remember. I've got limited brain cells. I am not a tech guru. Just someone who walked off the street, called up DELL, got a XPS M1530, paid $1500 for a machine, then bought Adobe elearning for another large amount, and Vista, and even though I read the comments, I ignored them, and now I can't even download/execute whatever....just make any Flash version, 8, 9, 10, work! Nothing works and I am in this black hole and it is just ridiculous!

As you can see I am a little bit peeved because I really feel like JOB, from the bible now.

I mean this is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to go with a driver issue, ok, lets give that a shot go to search, type device manger. In device manager look for any yellow warning notices, showing driver problems. Update your video card and driver. In device manager click on monitor devices. If you are showing ATI Radeon, there has been a big up date as of March. I donwnloaded it, myself. That may indeed be the cause of the problem.

Here is the link to download the new driver.
http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx

If you are not sure how to do it, I can help; but you must do your homework. Fill out your system specs. Go to user cp, access at the top of the page. Then look for system specs in the panel on the left.

If even the tech guy at school had no idea, it is going to be difficult to resolve this issue from a distance.

Hello sarahreed1,
This could be caused by remnants still in the registry, try this free app and see if it helps. If nothing else it will tidy up the registry.

CCleaner - Home (Backup Registry When Prompted).

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Try Stoney approach before all the others. Although, I mentioned to you earlier to do a system restore, which would have removed everything, possibly it was not done correctly or you did not go back far enough. If after the ccleaner you are still not working try the upadates as suggested in my earlier post. To be honest, I become concerned when the school tech guy could not find a solution. Based upon your description of the problem, this is not a difficult problem to solve. We can only go by what you tell us. Think, did anything else happen, shortly before you made the download? Exactly, what did the tech guy tell you?

Heres and idea lets just check for other problems that we are not thinking about.
Go to search type cmd, do not hit enter, but run as administrator. In cmd type sfc /scannow. This will report and fix any corruption problems.

We are all hoping for the best.

The tech guy recommended that I take Vista off the machine and do Microsoft 7. He wanted to take everything off. I really don't want to do this because of the 2 week ordeal with captivate and vista. This was a huge nightmare, which was resolved with an adobe engineer who took over the machine via internet and found a driver error. I thought I was going mad then.

No..I have another nightmare. Via shockwave and flash (flv).

I did system restore. It won't let me go back way back even though I tried Rick. I want to send an attachment but I cannot, so you can see the images of what I see.

I also did CC cleaner.

What happened before I downloaded Flash? Hm..I deleted flash 8 and 9. Then I tried to execute flash 10.

Like I've said, to everyone. It looks like flash is on the computer. The icon is on the desktop. I've executed it, and it's been extracted. But it does not work! Not even when the tech guy tried it. In fact, he was like you. He didn't believe me.

I believe in my limited thinking...that there might be a communication error - tower of babel thing going on between the windows installer and flv download. I don't think it's quite gotten everything, no matter how many times I clean the system and download again to execute.

I'd find you in CT if I could.

If you come down to the Derby you can swing by my house and see for yourself! - I'm sorry if I seem sarcastic, it's just that my whole life has been consumed by something that should be simple and it's not, and I am wasting time, which is ridiculous and I am no where better than where I started.

With all the time you put into getting it running maybe you should think about
putting 7 on the computer.
The flash is screwed so there is no chance of fixing it.
You can try to uninstall it the regular way though add and remove programs
and than use ccleaners reg cleaner and remove the reg entries.
When you reinstall try turning off antivirus ( some have a turn off for 15 minutes option) if you want disconnect from the internet just to be safe.
Then try the reinstall.
I think the tech guy is looking to make a sale on 7 and looking to make a buck.
It is up to you.
If you wanted to you can always do a factory reset with your resore discs os partion.
This will mean that you will have to take hours to put everything back in.
But it will save you money.
I know I am rambling again.

Try using a different browser other than the current one (try using google chrome, mozilla firefox, opera). Usually flash applications are online so hence the browser advice. Another good advice that i can give you, is to not get so frustrated, all computer problems eventually get fixed, and dont give up!

Good luck and post back.

You know I am willing to try just about anything.

With the driver issue. Let me explain. With captivate, they went into DOS and regsvr32 and renamed the .dll extension.

I really think I have to rename a .dll extension for Adobe flash, because that's what I had to do with captivate.

Of course I do not know what .dll extension it is. Because the file does execute and open up into vista, it just does not work, which means some .dll in flash is not compatible with vista, or else it would work.

Does this make sense? Is there anyone who can fix this problem.

Even though it seems like a huge problem, I think a patch can be made by some engineer and I think there are others out there just like me. I would hate to assume that I am the 1 in a million it could happen to.

The odds are just not possible. I believe its a "Toyota-like" issue. Someone just got really frustrated and dumped the machine into a closet or to goodwill or something. A normal person like me.

Also, I had shockwave too, but now I do not. It doesn't work.

Even though I tried to rename the .dll extension the engineers at Adobe had to do a live chat and they had to go into DOS. :p
