HP Laptop wont Burn DVD Media

When I use other DVD burning programs they read no compatible drives available, but will burn CDR media.

I have done a lot of research and still cant solve this problem.

Here is what I have done so far. I have a HP DV4-1114nr Laptop and all I am trying

to do is back up my DVD media as data.

This is what I have done so far. I tried updates, reformat with restore disc and even

bought a used burner on ebay. I also messed with registry and deleted strings in

regedit and last did a system restore still cant burn DVD media as data. The funny

thing is in Device Manager see the device and says its working properly. I have evenly

used a Disc Brush Cleaner for DVD rom. I also scaned for viruses , still no DVD burn.

This is a problem for me for about a 3 months now , can anybody help me out thanks.

What software have you used to burn the DVD's or CD's?

Does the drive play DVD's (Purchased ones)?
Even though that is not conclusive as the play & burn functions use different parts of the head.

Do the DVD's successfully burn in another computer?

What Service Pack are you updated to?

There are some excellent burners in the software thread.
I use both Image Burn and DVDVideoSoft Free Studio.
Both give excellent results.

Another consideration is LIGHTNING UK! is very knowledgeable. He may see something helpful in the log that others may miss.
