hey peoples hope you can help me

k , last week i got a few trojans which only appeared after updating windows, i managed to clean all my pc of infection ,BUT now it takes the piddle shutting down it used take 20seconds now its like 5 mins or more.i cant do fresh install or repair becus i have very slow connection and would take days to complete. also there is like 40gb missing after everything is accounted for any ideas? that vss service is turned off

it sounds like you may have an infection,i would run a couple of anti spyware scans although a slow connection shouldn't make a fresh install slow.

a'up mate, every scan i do now comes back with nothing. regards the slow connection,(soz if confused ya) my games i bought were digital downloads an would prolly take days to downlload again. is there anyway to delete every system restore point and that vss service.also wen i was doing a scan some files i saw fly up my screen it was like they were in a language from another planet never seen it before i am sure they were in windows folder. thanks for your reply

you can get rid of all your restore points by turning off system restore and you can stop the vss from services but i wouldn't do either of those yet.have you tried doing your scans in safe mode?if not i would try that,good luck.

lol its already off ,it comes up with an error 0x81000202
ther is no suspicious start up entries or services .i havnt got a virus scanner i use online scanners so cannot do that in safe mode?
a-squared found 2 rootkits but they are supposedly bin deleted.and also dskchk says there is problems on the disc run chkdsk with /F but wen it runs it dont find anything wronge.also my resolution keeps changing to 800x600 wen i turn pc on or restart it? could that be somthing to do wiv trojans /viruses
i have had no problems wiv the laptop up until now an its 6 mths old hopefully its software related.thank u for replying .i tryin to give as much info as i can

it is most likely still infected especially if you have been running with no anti virus.you really need at least to have your firewall,an anti virus and windows defender running and up to date.i reckon you may have to do a system recovery back to factory settings to sort this out.have you got alot of programs and data to lose?

hi, erm win defender waste of time itss never found anything my firewall is on.i see formatting or system recovery as an easy way out an would like to try an fix it with someones help if possible.is there any tool i could use so ppl on this forum can see what state the laptop is in ?thx for your reply
i could do with not loseing the data because it would take at least a month to download again and cannot burn it to disc as nothing will let me nero an co, just come up with error

• Reformat
• Install and use Windows Defender
• Install any good Anti-virus....see Software - Free Software List for Vista
• Activate UAC
• Do backups and monitor restore points

Windows Update is not to blame for your predicament......accept that you are the author of your own misadventure

I fully agree with sassofalco. You need to reinstall your system if the scans do not get rid of the malware. You can then use the new Microsoft Security Essentials ( Download Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0 - No cost, no hassle security software for your PC - Softpedia ) as security system. It is free and works pretty well.
And for the future use an imaging program to backup your system. Here is a selection of free programs ( 7 Freeware Acronis True Image & Norton Ghost Alternatives ). Not on this list is Easus which is supposed to work pretty well.

thanks for ur replys dudes, first of sassofalco windows defender hasnt batted an eye lid regards virus tro.. since i bought the laptop feb this year, er i do (hate UAC because pg2 wont work with it on and defender kicks off .
when i bought it it was preinstalled with loads of sh*te and mcafee and i thought it was rapid, then the subscription ran out so i got rid of all the crap and it was even faster
