One day my laptop was open and someone came in and SLAMMED the cover closed, and that messed something up.

It will not start up correctly, if my computer is off, and then turned on, this is what happens:

It starts successfully to the screen where you have to enter the boot password, after you enter the boot password, the following message just keeps being displayed:

For Realtek RTL8111B/8111C gigabit Ethernet Controller v2.06 (070425)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

It just keeps showing that over and over.

I have a "Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit Operating System Disk" which says "Use this disk to re-install your operating system". If I use this disk will it completely wipe all my old files???

PLEASE HELP, THANK YOU

If by "SLAMMED" you mean it was closed in a violently hard manner while it was powered on then my friend your hard drive is probably been defunked and will require you to do a reinstall of windows. The same thing can happen if a power failure occurs in some cases, most of the time a power failure will not yied this result but I just had to reset one up this happened to for a customer.

Try all options listed by the other posters and also check the hard drive to make sure it is properly connected as the "slam" might have jarred it slightly and it might have a slight connection issue. That error is basically telling you it does not see a drive with an operating system on it so re-installing will be your only option if all else fails.

You can use an Ubuntu live cd to backup your data to an external hard drive. Something might have been loosened or fractured, as has been mentioned. Once you get your data, slam a bat into whoever's face who slammed your laptop lid.

what model is your laptop, I will recon you run a hardware check from the bios to see if there is any hardware damage.. It can be a simple thing that the hard disk had moved or even the cards..
