help, computer reboots by itself..unable to log in

hello,

I think I have a virus on my computer.

I turn on computer and this message comes on...

Configuring update stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete
Do not turn off computer

1 minute later my computer shuts down and reboots itself. When it turns on the same message comes on.

So what can I do. Is there anyway for me to save some of the data in my computer before I use the operating system DVD.

There are some pictures on my kids on the computer that I have not saved onto a disc.

Can you boot into safe mode, restart hit F8, then try safe mode. If not, try safe mode with command prompt and enter rstrui.exe to see if a system restore will work.

I tried it with the safe mode but it still shuts down and restart itself. I will try doing the other part right now...

its not working. its not letting me type anything into the command. the computer is still restarting by itself... =(

Its not letting me type anything it. It just continues with its cycle and turn on and off again.

Is there anything else I can do?

You'll have to flat format if it keeps rebooting. Try recovering from the Vista disc again to see if you can access the command pompt. If not, then the last option is to format.
