How to Fix Windows Vista Help and Support​

   Information

If when you try to open Help and Support in Vista and you get a error message and Help will not open properly, or you get a message that WinHlp32.exe is no longer supported, then this will show you how to fix these common errors and others for Help and Support.

OPTION ONE

To Fix This "Help" Error Message

   Note

• The Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) program is no longer included in Windows

1. Go to this site: Microsoft Download Center: Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) for Windows Vista​

​

2. Click Continue at the site above to download and install the patch.​

NOTE: If you get the error 80070422, the macro error code 1037, or the patch above will not install or work, then see: MS KB917607 WinHelp32 Patch​

OPTION TWO

To Fix These "Help" Error Messages

   Note

These are usually caused when the Content Type registry settings for the file types: .XML, .XSL, .PNG, .JPG, .CSS is incorrect or missing.

• Red X mark appears where the images are to be displayed.
• CSS styles are not applied to the pages in Help and Support.
• Error: Internet Explorer cannot download / from Windows

STEP ONE:​

NOTE: To make sure that you have Online Help and Support enabled.​

1. Click on Options at the top right corner of the Help window, and click on Settings. (See screenshot below step 3)​

2. Check the Include Windows Online Help and Support when you search for help box.​

​

3. Click on OK.​

​

​

STEP TWO:​

1. Click on the Download button below to download the Fix Help.reg file.​

​

​

2. Click on Save and save it to the desktop.​

​

3. Right click on the downloaded Fix Help.reg file, and click on Merge.​

​

4. Click on the Run, Continue, Yes , and OK when prompted.​

​

5. When done, you can deleted the downloaded Fix Help.reg file if you like.​

HEJ SHAWN,
I JUST FIX MY LOST HISTORY BAR THAT I TRIED TO FIX IN MANY WAYS EVEN THE COMPANY WHERE I BOUGHT IT DONT HAVE ANY IDEA OF IT,UNLESS THEY WILL FORMAT AND REINSTALL ALL THE PROGRAMS BACK,but guess!
I it was fixed automatically when i was deleteing the temporary files,and other files that hides in the computer...
now when i just checked my comp the HISTORY BAR appeared.this is solved also...3 problems and 2 is solved..... help and support is fixed, i got 35gb space back from the hidden files and now i got my history bar back.smily for you SHAWN, you are the best on the internet to solve VISTA PROBLEMS.

hi shawn,
i just had a problem on my comp now,i downloaded nvidia on my vista and then it says reboot and i did since then it went black on the screen,what can i do?am writing you from another computer now.

See if you can boot your computer into Safe Mode.

When in Safe Mode, open the Control Panel (Classic view) and click on Device Manage. Open you Display adapters (Video device) properties and click on the Driver tab. Click on Roll Back Driver. This will have the driver go back to the version before the one your tried to install.

Thanks i done that already before u sent this,my wife fixed it.but i cant go back to the older version because i updated it before this happened and its frozen and whitish on the screen that why i uninstalled it before taking this version but still it shows like the one i deleted..

its running ok now,but the problem is that i cant see my computer through the tv incase i want to see movies on my comp through the tv , my computer screen flashes white stuffs and then when ever i start the NVIDIA it kicks back to d computer instead of staying hooked to the tv when i transfer the pc to the tv.what can i do?i have already unistalled it a day before and my windows update automatically every 24hours,how can i get back the old one that i had before i had it updated?this problem started 4days ago when i got a update and i accepted,since then this problem started.

I'm afraid that I do not know what to do for that problem. You might post the problem in one of the forums to see if someone else may know a solution for you. Give as many details on the problem and hardware setup you can to help. Hope you get a solution soon.

I'm a "newbie" in your forum and wasn't here for more than 5 minutes when I found your solution to my problem.

I also downloaded and installed Microsoft's WinHelp program for Vista. After installation, I continued to get the "1037" macro error message. I followed your advice, downloaded the Add WinHelp.reg Patch and merged it into my registry.

It appears my problem has been eliminated. Brink, I can see why "Nobody messes with Texas". Thanks!

I have a problem with "windows help and support" system that I have not been able to find an answer for.

When I try to open help in vista ultimate, it pops an internet explorer window that says "cannot download / from windows" and the windows help and support window remains blank.

I have patched the 'old' help system which works fine but this above problem pops up when trying to access the 'new' help system.

Hi all, different angle to same question. I installed this on my vista home premium and it went fine, BUT my dads PC isnt on the internet nor is there an option of taking it somewhere with internet acess, so, the question is...

How do you install this on a PC with no internet access?

Hi Rickious, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It's your choice, but you could copy this file from your computer to something like a DVD or USB flash drive key, then from it, copy the file onto your dads computer to install.
