GTA IV - Crash problem

re-install the game. I had this problem and called Rockstar support and they told me to reinstall the game.

But what happened was as soon as I was done installing and updating it worked perfect for the first run of the game then back to going to desktop like you have stated.

I have the same graphics card. have not played the game since, but I have noticed new GFX drivers 182.08 so I will try that next.

New in Release 182.08:
  • Added support for GeForce GTS 250.
  • Added SLI profile support for some newly released games.
  • Additional information on specific bug fixes can be found in the release documentation notes.
  • Users without US English operating systems can select their language and download the International driver here.
New in Release 182 Drivers:
  • Recommended for the best experience in F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.
  • Boosts performance in numerous 3D applications. The following are some examples of improvements measured with Release 182 WHQL drivers vs. Release 181.22 WHQL drivers (results will vary depending on your GPU, system configuration, and game settings):

From what I heard, GTA4 eats a lot of VRam. Having textures on high with anything under 1 GB of VRam may cause some problems. Textures on medium, even with a card with 1 GB of VRam may make it more stable.

First of all thank you Dane!!
For posting your problems and your solution.

I've got 100% the same problem.

My System..

- Vista Ultimate 64bit, SP1
- GeForce GTX 295, 2x GT200b
- Intel Core i7 940
- EX58-UD4P
- 6144 MB Ram

A bit 'smaller' than your bombastic station^^
But more than enough for GTA IV, I thought by buying that game.. (50€)
So I clicked an hour through the installation, on social club, windows live and all the other crap.. but for a fantastic game, i think thats all okay, so long I can play.. :)
So it start's for the first time, I played the first 5-8 missions and BAM!.. the picture freezes and after a few seconds ich got right the same error like you.. on and on.. I tryed the same ways like you.. Installing new, with patches v1.0.2.0, v1.0.1.0, new nvidia drivers and so on.. nothing works. after a few days searching and testing all opinions i found your post here today.

I will try your 3 steps solution this evening and hope it helps me too. But textures on medium, is it acceptable? For a system like ours??

I'am frustrated too.. and give reply after disabling DEP..
