Game Crashes

I'm sure this has been talked about quite a bit but I can't seem to find any fix for my issue that works for me.

Every game I have crashes. It doesn't happen all the time and it is completely random. It doesn't crash when I'm not playing a game. When it crashes my game the last sound I heard just continuously loops and it won't let me alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del and I have to do a hard reset. This didn't happen with Vista 32 bit with the same hardware.

I love 64 bit Vista and I would really hate to have to go back to 32 bit if at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using a 32 Bit version game. Then install the game in the X86 Folder. This will Give the 32 Interface for the game.

All my games are installed in the x86 Program Folder.

ahh the sound loop crash , it was notorious years ago , happened to everyone do you have the latest drivers? for your onboard sound? they recently brought out new ones

Yep I have the newest ones. Didn't consider it might be a sound issue. I was considering installing this SB Audigy sound card I have but I don't think there's any 64 bit drivers for it because its a bit of old card now.

Have you tried turning off all sound and then try games.
If still a problem, disable the sound card on your PC then try.

This may or may not solve your issue but, I was having a similar situation as yours. My video and sound drivers were up to date but, for testing purposes, I uninstalled and install a fresh copy of both to no avail.

What finally helped me what updating my Monitor drivers to x64. If you go to Device Manager and your Monitors are listed as "Generic PnP Monitor", that may be your problem since Vista is using Generic profiles and not the monitors native profile.

I got my monitor second had so I may have trouble finding the drivers for it but I'll give it a try. Maybe it'll at least help the slight flickering problem I have but I think this monitor's on it last legs.

Actually I think I may have figured out my crashing problem. I while ago I had a sata controller issue on my mobo. I switched around what ports I had my sata cables into and the problem went away. Well earlier today, my computer starting performing badly and eventually crashed, when I restarted the computer I noticed one of my HDD's was not getting detected by my bios just like it did that first time I had this problem. So I switched my main HDD's sata port and it was detected and booted up fine again. Apparently when I recently rebuilt my computer I must've put one of the cables in to one of the malfuncioning ports.

But bottom line is I need a new motherboard. This xfx 680i has been nothing but trouble since day one. Should've returned it when I first got it.
