Freeze out so-called improvements/updates

Do you have a serial code for PS CS 8? Do not post it here. I'm just checking that if you redownloaded the trial, then you could activate it.

I've found a trial for PS CS8 and I'm downloading it now to make sure that it's virus free. Its 150mb and the download should finish in 8 minutes :) I'm afraid you're going to have to wait until then before we can continue

I like the way you are thinking, Tom... a lot.

but that puts the fear of god into me... since its such an old version, Adobe couldn't help me at all... and if I use the code in a trial version... it might totally implode on me. Then I am totally up the river without a paddle.

It can't be Photoshop... its been on this system and others for the longest time. Its like if we walked away from this screen for a sandwich, came back and this website stopped working... we didn't do anything differently, we didn't install it, or reinstalled it or anything... it just stopped responding. I can see if I did a clean install or something... or I don't know... its just weird.

It should work... I can see if the software was corrupted somehow, reinstalling it should have fixed that... but something on my system is missing, and it won't allow my software to properly launch. I just don't know how to diagnose what part of the computer is faulty.

Okay, seeing as you're so sure, we'll go down that route instead :) We can always go back to the Photoshop if we change our minds.

Open up the start menu and type cmd in the search box. When it finishes searching, right click on cmd and select Run as administrator. When command prompt opens, type the following and press enter:

sfc /scannow

Let me know if it finds any Integrity Violations

Thank you, Tom
not sure if I should be happy or sad that the scan found corrupt files...

Verification 100% Complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

The Windows sidebar entries in that log are normal, everyone will get those! But it appears to have repaired all of the files :)

Have you tried installing Photoshop since the sfc scan?

Sorry but what's that disk management link for? Have you set up partitions that you no longer want or something like that?

Don't worry, we should be able to fix this without a clean install :)

Hi Tom... thank you

I have no idea if I did or didn't install Phsop since the scan... (Feels like I've installed it dozens of times in the past couple of days) Probably not installed since.

I will try again, since its still not launching properly.

I created a partition on my C: drive by shrinking it (assuming I can't create a new partition, since the C: drive was completely allocated) ... and after it did its calculations, it only allowed me to shrink it by 10 GB... so I now have a D: drive that's only about 10 GB... which is nothing to sneeze at, but... I have 600GB hard drive, and have no files on this system anymore (backed them all up) I can't imagine Windows and a few programs taking up 590GB of space. Puzzler...

but yeah... gonna try installing Pshop again... brb :)

What have you got on this 10GB partition

Hi Tom, I have nothing in partition D:
or at least I don't think I do.

It shows up as completely empty when I "Open" or "Explore" the drive... but when I click on properties, it shows that there is 83MB of something on there.

My Computer

That's excellent news Fresco  Well done on working it out! And I'm very glad you did because I was seriously running out of ideas.

If you have any further problems, do not hesitate to post in this thread or start a new one

Tom, I owe you a great deal of gratitude... :)

I was juggling a virtual hornet's nest, and you jumping to the rescue the way you did was truly heroic. Looking back now, it feels like no big thing... its all smiles and back to normal...

But at the time, when I was slamming my head against that figurative wall, over and over again with no solutions or resolutions, your assistance was not only sorely needed, it was deeply appreciated.

Not having had to go at it alone made such a difference... thank you a million times over. It is my hope that you are never in need, but if you are ever in the same position that I was in (and I am not just talking computers here) it is my wish that someone will swiftly come to your aid as well.

God bless you, Tom!

My Computer

Thank you for the kind words, often we find that people just 'hit and run', i.e. they come, get an answer, and don't bother to spend a few minutes saying thank you, so I really appreciate that :)

It's no problem at all, I've learned new things from helping you, and I hope you have too!

Once again, thank you, and good luck in your art!

Tom

Thank you, Tom... I most certainly did learn a lot.

I totally hear you, and thanks,
